Which brake lines to buy?
Im about to upgrade the brakes a bit. I already have rotors, ceramic pads, and Im looking for which brake lines to buy.
Ive tried searching but didnt find a complete answer. Im looking for brake lines that are a direct swap for the OEMs and fit just as OEM lines would. |
Do you track the car? Are the original brakes lines damaged in some way? If not, then you won't notice a difference with "upgraded" brake lines. Save your money. Just my $.02.

Like the OP said, I'm not sure you will feel the difference. But if you are doing a complete swap out and you don't mind spending the money then go ahead. It can't hurt. That being said I have Earl's all around on mine.

really. i assumed that the squishiness of the brakes were from the oem lines, and earls would improve brake feel--at least that's what happened in my old mr2.
so getting the brake master cylinder support or an MS front strut bat would remedy that, yes? |

Interesting. What is a master cylinder support? Anyone link me to an example? I was thinking of upgrading my brakes a bit, but people seem to say that the oem brakes are good, and I think so too. My bro said I might want steel braided lines for improved feel, but it sounds like this would be a better way to go since you guys said the lines don't make much difference to the feel.

I have the MS strut with brace and goodridge SS brakelines... I noticed the biggest increase with the brace

My Goodridge SS brake lines have 92,000 miles on them with no issues. I have tracked my car.

yeah i did search and read up on the MS strut bar and the AxialFlow one. interesting stuff. not to start a debate on it, but the back and forth arguing about the integrity of the strut bar for the axial flow one bugs me. Makes me want to grab a MS Strut bar, cept thats a lotta money if I'm just doing it for the MC support. And I don't suppose the MS strut bar offers any performance benefits over stock strut bar? Looks purely cosmetic. Whatcha think?

I went with the MS bar because I liked the look and it had the master cylinder brace. The car did feel firmer in the twisties but that could simply be my faulty butt dyno talking

structural integrity won't be compromised by cutting that hole. Richard is an absolute perfectionist and a HELL of a designer when it comes to things like that.
tell ya what: if you buy one and your strut bar breaks because of the brace, I'll buy you a new one. That's how confident I am in RP's stuff. |
I just bought some goodrich stainless steel brake lines from Rosenthal Mazda (forum vendor).

yeah people rave about that shifter. i gotta get one at some point, but ive got a lot of other things ahead of me first.

I say it because I've known Richard for years, I've been to his Shop, and have seen some of the stuff that guy makes.
He's an absolute genius / mad scientist when it comes to metal work. Add to that his obsession with perfection and you end up with VERY high quality stuff. |

It was funny because when I did mine 2 weeks ago I kept looking at NYCGPS's D.I.Y. and it said to bleed the Master Cylinder. I was like :ftw: ?! why the hell would I need to bleed the MC?! WHERE the hell do I bleed it from?! There's no bleed screw!!! it was then I noticed that only the '04's had a bleeder on the MC. :D: good times... |
bleeding the clutch line is fun too.. esp if you didnt look at a DIY and tried to figure it out on your own...

okay, apparently 04 and early 05's have it. My car and NgoRX8 did not have the bleeder.
Newcastle (04) did. :scratchhe |

I'm waiting for goodrich SS lines to arrive (hopefully any day now). I have pads and clutch line now but just waiting on the brake lines to do it all at once. You cali guys are welcome to drive up to my house for beer and pizza and to install my parts ;) |
