Brake help
I need to change the brake pads on my 8 and I was prepared to do so but when I went to pick up my parts, the parts dealer told me to make sure I twist the caliper piston when resetting it. I've never heard this before. will I damage my calipers by pushing them in or do I have to slowly twist them back into position?

The rear pistons need to be screwed back in. You can't push them. There is a tool you can buy at Canadian tire that takes a 3/8 socket on one end and a selection of piston shaped grips on the other. Works well for doing the rear pistons.
The fronts are regular, no screwing needed.p |
Thanks a lot man

You can also rent the rear brake caliper tool for free from a lot of auto parts stores with a deposit.
They're a little tricky, you have to screw in the piston and unscrew the tool at the same time so it doesn't jam. It's also a good idea to loosen the bleeders so you don't force the fluid back through the valving of the brake system. |
