Has anyone found out how to deal with the crazy amount of brake dust that the GT package breaks produce? I don't brake very hard and I find myself cleaning enormous amounts of brake dust off my front brakes each day. Rear ones aren't bad at all, but then again 70%+ of your stopping power is in your front brakes.

I was thinking of going out and getting ceramic brake pads for the front/rear. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for these? Thanks for the advice guys/gals.

The ceramic may help but it's my understanding they'll create additional noise. I have the same problem - dust. I've seen sprays to put on your rims to prevent dust from collecting but I haven't tried any of them. I just wipe down the rims every 2-3 days. It sucks for me since I use a car cover all the time but those damn wheels always seem to look dirty. Oh well.

i zainoed the inside of my rims, and the dust doesn't stick anymore.

I feel your pain. It's my morning ritual. Go out before school and wipe off the rims. Have to stay on top of things or the buildup gets pretty nasty. I've been told that ceramic has little to no dust. I didn't know that they made additional noise though. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'm pretty sure we all deal with this dirty little problem... hehe

Y'all may be developing BDA, or brake dust anxiety. It's similar to anorexia or bulimia, i.e., you always feel like you're really really fat, but everyone else thinks your RX-8's wheels look perfectly clean. Or something like that.....

Seriously, I drive ~ 45 miles a day and usually by the time the rims are showing visible brake dust, the rest of the car is dirty too, so I wash the whole thing average 2x a week, and I wax the inside of my rims when I rotate them for whatever benefit there is.

There was a ceramic pad thread in this forum several months back. You may find some useful info there.

I ran EBC GreenStuff (kevlar/copper) pads on my Eclipse and VW GTI with good results. Better performance with almost no dust or noise. But I have yet to find a US distributor that carries the GreenStuff RX-8 pads. I guess we'll have to wait a year or so for demand to get high enough so they will import them.

I have also zaino'd the rims (used z-6). I have definately seen improvement, but it still accumulates.

On the plus side, it comes off easier now with a quick wipe.

I changed the front wheel pads to Autoexe Street Pad, and it reduced the dust considerably. Not so expensive and worth try unless you are hard core driver. The brake touch became a little bit softer, which is not such a big draw back. I don't know if they are distributing this item in US though....

Afterawhile you do get used to it, however I will admit I clean the rims every 2 days with Z6 spray. Eventually you tire of it especially when the stock rims become more worn and the break dust collects in scratches. Thats a real pain!
