Brake Caliper Powder Coating

So I've been searching for a way to powder coat (or at least look like I did) my calipers, reason being, I refuse to simply 'paint' the calipers, I personally think it's cheesy (no offence to those who have done it, hopefully yours came out better than what I have actually seen).

Anywho I found this (http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT). More like a glossy coating (paint) whatever. Any takes or other suggestions? I basically want to make the calipers look the best they can.

You call it glossy, but looks like you'll end up painting your calipers with it

If you get it powder coated, please post pics, I'd be interested in seeing the results.

That's what I'm scared of... that I'm gonna 'finish' them with this product and they're gonna look painted... unless it's sprayed on... still there needs to be at least a base coat and a top coat... I mean I can always test it on something similiar...

the product description and parts that come in the box sound almost exactly like what comes in the G2 paint kit.

i have powder coat on my other cars big brakes... it looks great and is way more durable then paint... the color alos lasts a lot longer... the powder coats is sprayed on then it is heated to a certain temp to harden it... it provides protection (not that it needs to be protected) and makes it look good... once you go pc you never go paint

I'm very familiar with powder coating b/c I used to deal with powder coated breakmetal at my old job, and agreeing with everything you said, that's exactly why I rather have them powder coated...

Out of curiosity, where did you take your car to get them done? An autobody shop? Or did you buy new OEM calipers and have them done?

I hand painted my calipers gloss black using caliper paint and it came out dam good. I wouldn't waste my time & money on something that doesn't benefit you too much, unless you are some sort of show car. It only cost me $10 for the kit. If it were any color other than black "maybe" then i might do it.

^^ ditto on DEEDUBB

I did mine with duplicolor brush on...it cost me $14.....it looks really nice and is very durable....and i even have the rx8 decal on them and its still there...

i have heard of some guys that actually will take the caliper and prep it with sand paper or the like to get it smooth....

but i am very happy with mine...it was actually the cheapest mod..

I used the Duplicolor system as well and prepped it by scrubbing it with a wire brush to rough up the surface to hold the paint better. Looks fantastic.

You could do that and if you can get your hands on a heat box throw the brakes in there and bake those bad boys for a bit. That would be almost just like powder coating them, that paint would never go anywhere.

I know a guy around where I live (in general Houston)... I got a yello 8, so I'm thinking maybe a darkish yellow... Other than getting new pads, rotors, and a SS brake line... There's really not much else than powdercoating for looking...

I'll post pic's but it'll probably take a month....

I, too, did them myself. I got the G2 stuff. About the same price as theirs.

Much easier, and being able to say "I did them myself." It's all looks anyways. Keep the $50+ or however much they will charge to pc them. I had to do some touch-ups and found that I should of just bought the spray can, but then again I wouldn't of had the brake cleaner the G2 kit came with.

All in all, DIY is always fun. I don't really trust anyone but myself to work on my car for that matter.

Originally, I painted mine.
I did all Dupicolor spray. It looked great for about 2-3months.
I had way to much brake dust sticking to it so I was constantly scrubbing to get them shiny again.
About 8 months later I redid them because the paint was chipping and there were parts that I couldn't get clean.

Dust was still a major problem for me, so I decide to powder coat them.

They sanded them down smooth, and painted them a perfect color to match.
Since they have been powder coated I can wipe them clean w/ a dry cloth after going months w/o touching them.

Yes, it was not cheap, but it was what I wanted.
Same place powder coated my OEM wheels.
Sometimes, mods/prices don't really make sense, but we do them anyways.

Painting can look pretty good too. I liked the way my calipers looked when they were painted, problem for me was the up keep.
When I first did it though, they looked pretty good.
