balance and mount wheels and tires

Hi. I have a question about wheels and tires. If I were to buy wheels and tires, can I have them balanced at a auto shop and mount them myself? Or do they have to mount them including balance there.
I don't know how to balance wheels and tires. But I can mount them myself.

Thanks,

Chad

Depends on the shop, as long as you're not tying up a lift they can probably accomodate you. If you just bring the wheels and tires, not on the car, balancing should be quick. What they'll probably be more annoyed by is having to lift the car and remove the wheels just to balance them, and might change you just about the same as if they had to mount them anyway.

They might also not want to touch them to avoid liability in case you mounted the tires wrong.

ok. Because I'd rather just take the wheels and tires there in another car and have them balanced, while my car is on jack stands in my garage, then put the wheels/tires on my car after I get them back. I don't know how to mount a tire on a wheel, and balancing the pressure. I'd rather do what I can myself, because that's been my motto for the last 3 months. LOL I've got alot done.

You should get your tires mounted, balanced and get an alignment all at one place.
You can pay a little extra for lifetime alignments and get your tires rotated for free at many places.

If you don't have a proper alignment your tires will wear out prematurely.
