Question Advan or Axis?

Hello everyone.

What do you guys think...the Advan RCII:

I'm on the fence about color...they come in gold and silver. I'm leaning toward the silver, 'cause I tend to like an understated appearence, but have to admit, the gold would look pretty racy on my Ti-Grey! A problem for me is that they are not TPMS compatible...at least not with our stock sensors. I really like the idea of having the TPMS functional in my car.

My second wheel choice is the Axis Hiro (Hyperblack finish), which I believe is TPMS compatible with our stock sensors.

My plan is to have the wheels in size 18" x 8.5" all-around and wrap them with Yokohama AVS Sport or Parada Spec-2 tires (Yokohama Advan rubber maybe too much for everyday street use! :p ) for "dry-seasons" use and have my stock wheel for all-season/winter tire use. The Advans are hard to pass on...they are rare, race-spec and are pretty much ordered straight from Japan...Mike Huff at Vivid Racing is the only one I found that can get them! The Hiros, on the other hand, are more affordable, readily available, have been proven to look stunning on the 8 and I keep my TPMS.

My questions are: "How much do you value having the TPMS?", "If you've changed to wheels that are not compatible, did you miss the TPMS at all?" And finally, "Which wheel?"

Thanks for any thoughts or opinions!

Just an opinion, but I think the gold would look nasty on the Ti-Grey.

You can check them out at the Advan Website...the wheels are at the bottom of the page; sorry, it's in Japaneese. :p

As for buying them, talk to Mike Huff at Vivid Racing...he's really cool to talk to and he OWNS the Vivid Racing RX-8, so he really knows the ins and outs of our cars! :D

I don't think gold would look good on the Ti.

On Silver it would work, but Ti... I am not so sure.

Thanks for the responses...

...everyone! Looks like the Advans are the ones to get...in Silver!! :D

But how about the damn TPMS? Think it's worth not having it to roll with the oh-so-choice Advans?

ADVANS

I like the Avans and am thinking about gold TC ll's. Over $600 a wheel and then shipping charges make me wonder about the value though. I will not pay $100 a wheel for shipping. I found a $25 a wheel shipping charge at one site today. 15 pound wheel is nice plus though.

No need to worry about strength...they are forged!! :D

From resarching the web, Advan wheels are quite highly thought of in Japan...race-ready, ultra light-weight, etc. It is surprising to me that Yokohama, who owns/produces Advan, doesn't offer them here through their American retailers, ie. Tire Rack, NTW, etc.

Advan cast or forged?

I recall reading that Advans were cast also. That troubled me. Forge pricing and weight from what I have seen though. I have not seen forge mentioned. In fact very few specs. listed. I believe I saw weight at only one web site. Trust but verify.

The advans look alot like the 95 Mustang Cobra R wheels I had on my mustang... The TPMS work well on the Axis hiros...

The hiros are not rice at all, they are good quality and attractive wheels...

Hello Cortc...I would agree, the Hiros are really sharp, in fact, I first found out about them from your posts on your 8. As some have said, your 8 is one of the best on this forum!! Every time I look at your upgrade list...it just keeps getting more extensive! :D

Hopefully, I'll be able to swing the cost of the Advans...but the Hiros aren't exactly "settling for" either!!

Gold?

Gold rims? The last nice package of Gold rims on a car was my father's 82 RX7 GSL (when new!) with Gold 15" BBS rims...
Personally I think Gold is a thing of the past, go with Silver (not chrome either)
When you see Pontiac Firebirds coming from the factory with Gold Rims you know it's the WRONG thing to do...
Just my opinion of course. Do what makes you happy.
