the socket getting stuck to the lugnut is irritating, but making sure they are nice and secure is more important
|
^ I ended up returning that socket and getting one that fits better. Only problem then was it wouldnt fit on my torque wrench FML. So i put it on my impact gun and torqued the lug nuts. I know youre not supposed to use an impact gun to torque the nuts but i figured id rather over tighten them and be alive then under tighten and be dead.

I can confirm 20mm spacers on the front will require you to dremel the cavity in your wheels slightly. Or slice the oem studs.
I run 20mm in the front and 25mm in the rear. No changes in handling. Been on for 10k. Attachment 243865 Attachment 243866 Attachment 243867 Attachment 243868 |
Damn mobile site won't let me edit.
I chose to slice my front studs. I torqued it down and painted them. Approximately 3mm sticks out on the 20mm. Hence why 25mm requires no modification. I run 245s as well and I don't have my fenders rolled (although I will soon). The plastic wheel fender liner in the rear rubbed till it wore through and I have just enough camber to clear the fenders. 225/45/18 are clear all day though(my winter tires). |
Weird, I only had slight rubbing in the rear and that was only when I was on a big speed bump off camber. I still don't rub even at 18" x 9.5" +30. You may need new shocks.
Looks good, any reason you did not go 25mm all the way around? |
I have koni rear struts as well. One is defective.
I got a killer deal on them from my coworkers EVO for $100 :) Thanks I'm working on getting a replacement strut and I've changed to sprint springs so the front wheel gap is gone. So the rears will be changed out once I get my new rear strut. |
Ah okay, well that explains it, the Koni's make it sit even lower. If you get a high pressure gas shock like my KYB's you shouldn't have any rubbing issues.
|
hey guys just wondering i lowered my car and i have 245 45 18 in the rears and im thinking of putting 20mm spacers all around if i would have to roll my fenders

Why 20mm?, go 25mm. I had no rubbing issues running 245/40-18's. |
9k and rx8rotary,
This thread realllllllly inspired me to buy spacers... I'd just like to clarify a few things (even though i read this entire thread twice). Did you go 25mm all the way around? Were you on stock springs/shocks? Any companies who make spacers that you would recommend? Anything you would do differently? FYI I'm running stock rims with stock tires sizes (I believe 225/45-18) thanks! |
OH, and if any of you want to sell your 25mm I think i can help you out VERY quickly...

haha I apologize, I'm very cautious..
I'm a chemistry major so.. If i make a mistake it can result in purple knock-out gas. BUT, to bother you a bit more, were you running stock shocks? haha all your help is more than appreciable. thanks |
will the 25mm spacers give me any rubbing with 18x8.5 rims wit 225/45/18 tires?
|
I got 225/45s and i just ordered my teins. Im getting ready to buy the spacers but it doesnt look like 25mm in the front will fit.... am i losing it, or are the 225 different than the 245 on stock rims?!?
|
you will be fine with stock rims with 25mm spacers all around. check out ichiba or H&R spacers or any hubcentric ones. on stock rims, you can run up to 245 and be lowered on stock shocks with tein s-techs no problem.

That's awesome. Should i look into rolling my fenders? In my mind the extra room will only aid me in case i get some rubbing..
|
If your on stock shocks no.
My car is slammed in the rear, pics above. You can't fit a finger in there, anywhere. Tanabe springs, koni rear struts, 245/40/18s. Rubs with passengers, very hard cornering. Riding solo it barely touches the tire. |

Maybe some extra bump in the trunk?
|
25mm Eibach's with Tein S-Tech's will be on this weekend.
Pictures will be posted.. Wish me luck |

It can't hurt.
^ Yeah but that's not typical, that is mechanical failure of the shocks or sagging springs, or both. Took em off today and put the sprint springs on with KYB struts. WOW it rides so much better. Still pretty low, I'll take pics later this week, once it gets time to settle in. |

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's cause of the rear struts.

Brand new off of a member on here who posted something about having the set and not putting them on yet. Great guy...can't remember his name.
They ride really good though for how low they are. I examined my koni struts. Approximately 3" of compression there is zero pressure/resistance. That's whats been causing my harsh and noisy ride! Probably why my car sat so slammed too...the advertised drop is only 1.2" and it was more like 2.25" hahah Oh and Konis do have a lifetime warranty...but according to koni usa they're back ordered...WTF! |
WTF. springs and spacers are on. The rear is HIGHER than stock?
I don't know what the fuck i did. Maybe i need them to settle or something? The front is sitting nice, i did them this morning and went for a drive. they sat perfectly. The rear though, they are HIGH! i checked before putting the springs on and they WERE an inch lower than stock, but why would the car itself sit so high? PLEASE HELP! |
Did you preload?
|
Uh oh. I think im going to feel stupid ...
Explain what you mean by pre loading. thanks |
On our multi-link rear suspension there is arms you need to loosen while installing lowering springs, then tighten on the ground when the suspension has load on it.
You also should do this on the front by loosing the upper A-arm. I don't spoon feed. Search button does spoon feeding. |
thanks viprez, but i did do that with the front as well as the rear prior to 9k telling me. i was just asking for clarification.
and i don't expect to be spoon fed, i just knew this thread had users with the same springs. i appreciate your contributions though. 9k contacted me and has solved the problem. complete stupidity on my behalf. pictures up tomorrow. |
quick question. Having spacers right now has made me have like 2 of everything. I need 2 freaking sockets now cause i need a deep one for the lug nuts for the spacers.
Im wondering what you guys use to loosen and tighten the lug nuts on your spacers. I have a torque wrench but i doubt it will be usable cause it wont fit under the fender. Do you guys use an extremely long socket ?? |
Patience, a pry bar (or helper jamming on the brakes). A good torque wrench that has a slightly flexible head on it. I have a snap-on torque wrench.
The longer extension/socket you use the less accurate the torque reading will be. |
I used a normal 21mm (if i remember correctly) from a standard ratchet set and it fit (chrome standard depth socket) you just have to move the wrench around until you find an area where it will fit on and you can tighten.
|
stupid questions maybe:
1. Do you guys use any anti-seize or anything on the stock bolts to make sure that they dont seize up over time? 2. How do you guys manage to torque down the front while preventing the hub from spinning? |
1. supposed to but i dont
2. you have to use one hand and a pry bar. Wedge it between 2 studs and put pressure down while you torque with the other hand. |
Um have someone press the brake while you torque them noob.

Has anyone ever weighed a single 25 or 20mm spacer yet? Even if not what do u guys think a ballpark estimate is? (1,2,3,4,5 Pounds?)

Cool thanks. So it seems like the strut/shock brand kyb paired with s tech springs is a good option for rubbing issues if I get the 25 mm spacers? Only asking bc I will eventually upgrade to better struts after a few thousand miles (and more cash) after I put my teins on and now spacers. I know a previous post said stock struts with s techs will be fine for the 25mm spacers and no rubbing issues but I am just looking for better strut options down the road to make sure there is no rubbing if my car is lowered any further.
|
Stock shocks in good condition should be fine. But I have no complaints about the KYB's.
|
Spacers push the tire away from your springs and dampeners. no need to worry about them when using spacers unless you are trying to fit some crazy rim.
|
Thanks guys
|
Def putting spacers on my OEM wheels, currently dropped 1.2-inch on Eibach springs, with 225/45/18's on. 25mm all around should be fine right?

It will be just fine.
