245 40 18 on all 4 rims

I did a search, but didn't find a definitive thread on this, but simply wanted to get opinions from those who have 245/40/18 all around. I plan to do this, but want to make sure its a good idea/ no rubbing etc. I'll most likely bet getting a rim close to the stock offset of 50, probably 43-45 or so. Top 2 are BBS RSGT, or Volk GT-V

This is not a debate on staggered or not, nor rims. Simply want to make sure having 245 40 18s all around is 'okay' to do. Im looking to upgrade style on the rims, and beef up a bit, but don't plan to go to the track a lot or anything like that. Just want to keep the integrity of the same tire size all around, but increase the width. Given the 245 size, also, should I get 18x9 on all 4s, or 18x 8? I'd love to get 18x9 if possible, but not sure if thats too wide up front.

Thanks

There are tons of people running 245/40/18s on stock rims.
I'm been running them for years. Actually, I've seen much wider R compound tires for Autocross use on the stock rims, so you will have absolutely no clearance issues. (Assuming no crazy drops or anything.)
Just stick with something close to the stock offset and you'll be fine.

Yeah, i noticed and thats very encouraging. I do know stock rims are 18x8, would you recommend 18.x8 on all 4s or 18x9, given that the offset is roughly 43 or 45?

Is there anyone w/18x9 on all 4s?

I would stick with the 8" probably.
Maybe an 8.5"

I wouldn't go all the way to a 9" wide wheel unless you were going to go to a 255 or something. A 245 on a 9" wheel won't look right IMO.

remember you're only going 20mm (or a thumb's width) wider than stock... probably don't need to go 9" wide wheels for that

now if you're going for 255 tires.... that's a different story

makes sense- i only ask cause Tire rack 'recommends', or at least gives the option of the 18x9 wheel matched to a 245-.....(offset 45). They say this is the rear fitment option, - but i agree, at 245, i would probalby just stay 18x8.

any other thoughts? concerns?

Currently Running Volk TE-37s 18x8.5 +50 Offset with 245/40/18s all the way around.

No rubbing or anything, but!!!!!!

Here is the catch... if you get a +50 offset from Volk, you wont be able to use the standard caps and have to get god awful ugly **** copper cones that look cheap and suck.

So I don't use the caps =)

But, you could get away with +47 or +48 and use the caps =)

Also, you wont have any clearance problems with any brake kit you could ever want I swear.

Have fun.

Forgot to mention, I have run up to 275 on these rims, but anything over 265 just doesn't look right. But 245/255 looks great.

Just my thoughts:

245s will fit on the stocks, 18 x 8.0, but I dont think that is the ideal width. It will tend to make the profile a bit taller = less responsive = more comfortable
I think I read somewhere that, 8.5 is most suitable for 245s.

A 245/45 would be a bit taller, but if you reduced your aspect ratio to a 40 you shouldn't see a noticeable difference.

So if I got 245/40R18 all around on a 18X8.5 wheel, what offset would be ideal? I'm thinking of TE37's and I'm not sure what offsets are available for that wheel either. I am also thinking of getting JIC's and a drop somewhere between 1.5-2 inches. Will it rub at all?

I have 245/40/18 on 18x8.5 SSR Competitions, 42 offset on all 4 corners. No problems whatsoever. I think it is a great idea.

I did a little research and I guess the 18 X 8.5 Volk TE37's come in a few different offsets. The closest offset for the RX-8 would be the 40 and the 50. As mentioned by slavearm, the caps will not fit on the 50's. So, I guess that leaves me with the +40 offset (correct me if I am wrong). Now my question is, will 245/40R18's (probably Falken RT-615's) rub with a +40 offest using JIC coilovers with a 2" drop?

check out good-win-racing.com. they are running 18x9.5 wheels (enkei rp-f1), with 275/35 at all 4 corners, & JIC coilovers, about a 2 inch drop as well i believe. i dont know wat the offset on those are, but i think that info alone shows you should be just fine. good luck, im ordering 245/40's right now for the stock rims...

I just had 245/40/18's installed last week on stock rims. No problems at all, and I went with the Avon Tech 550 M/S+. The noise difference between the stock bridgestones and these are night and day, althouth the Avon's are not as 'sticky', the ride is much better.

What about performance with 245/40/18's on stock rims. Are there any handling or cornering issues with running these as opposed to the stock 225/45's on the stock rims? Looks like sidwall rigidity would be affected. Anyone notice any different characteristics in handling after doing this? What kind of differences? Thanks.
