Those look so GOOD with the SBC finish.

 

I know i would have ordered a set in SBC for my 8 but they won't clear my Endless Brakes. Frikin' sucks.

They look great and the weight is exactly what i want but the fact that they are enkies' is killing it.

 

Rishie, would these fit a FD that's been lowered about an inch? Can you PM me a price for rims alone??

Yeah i know... god forbid I buy a Light/Strong wheel that is used in real racing. How lame is that. Good thing im on the Veilside Rims waiting list.

You know it's unfortunate that the "Enkei" brand in the US has been tainted with cheap AMerica's tire company type of wheels.

My question to you guys is:

Does Advan? Racing Hart? Blitz? mean anything to you guys in terms of wheels? How about Lowenhart?

These brands are all primarily manufactured by Enkei Japan Factory, same as the Racing Series. In fact some of the Racing series technology is exclusive to their branded wheels.

I would definitely reconsider your position on Enkei by looking into more of their heritage and other wheel brands you might respect, but just don't realize that Enkei Japan is the one who makes them.

This is what all of the threads turn into.

My experiences with Enkei's have been poor, but it was a different wheel. I had 3-piece chrome Aegis wheels which were a terrible design.

The "chrome" on the barrell section of wheel was just chrome paint (the chrome on the poke section was real chrome." Anyway it didn't take long for the barrell portion to look like crap. And although it was a 3-piece design the barrells weren't sold seperately.

The other problem with the wheel was its right angle valve stem which by design shook loose over time and cause the tire to develope a slow leak. Oh, and yes it was a custom valve stem that was only available from Enkie directly. Ever had to wait a week to get new valve stem before you could change a flat?

So my $2000 spent on Enkei was probably the worst purchasing decission I have ever made. So that is my first hand experience with the Enkei Aegis wheel.

The RPF1 are probably a probably a better design (I would still avoid any "chrome" type finish they offer.) I won't be giving them a shot but that doesn't mean they aren't good wheel considering it is a simpler design.

I don't know if the RPF1 is "strong" wheel or not, but my guess is our 3000 lb RX-8 won't come anywhere near its load rating.

The RPF1s are heavily endorsed by Brian Goodwin (www.good-win-racing.com) and others. The SBC finish of Enkei is not chrome, but rather a clear coated polish. SBC Enkei wheels are actually lighter than normally painted wheels. I don't like shiny stuff, but I might consider SBC just for the (slight) weight savings.

these are Track worthy wheels. The Aegis isn't part of the Racing Series line of wheels and doesn't have the same style valve stem or finish of your Aegis. So it's not a good comparison.

the RPF1 is a very strong wheel and is EXTREMELY ROAD RACE PROVEN. i.e. RE-amemiya and his FC2000. not to mention a ton of others. the Racing Series is simply it's own caliber of wheel.

In terms of the SBC finish.

i have SBC finish wheels on my AME, also made by enkei, and it's not a clear coated polish either. it's more of a powedercoating, metallized vacuum finish. Many many of the Japanese manufacturers have gone to this. Including some cheaper wheels like Rota. Just a FYI. You can tell by looking at it that it is not polished and then cleared. A Polish just won't look like this. It's TOO BRILLIANT and has a tint to it.

Racing hart=cheap civic wheels, Blitz=cheap civic wheels, Lowenhart= ghetto bling mercedes wheels

A lot of enkei's wheels suck and are heavy but they do have a few good lightweight strong wheels such as this and the NT03+M

 

The Aegis wheels I got were "chrome", and that was a misrepresentation of the actual product. Yes, I know there's a difference between the two; I'm sure the outer barrell section of my aegis was actually some sort of sbc or whatever type finish, because it surely wasn't chrome.

My point was be very very very careful with Enkei finishes. Personally, I would avoid any exposure to road salts and any commercial car washes unless it was a 100% hand wash.
