TPMS gasket

i recently changed my wheels to 5zigen and got some TPMS from another member of the forum. i put them on and all seemed okay but the wheel shop kept saying that i needed to get a rebuild kit for the TPMS that had a new gasket and valve stem from Mazda. so i went to my dealership and they don't carry them - only the new TPMS. i decided to chance it and just have them put them on and sure enough one of them is leaking slowly and needs that new gasket.

i went back to my dealership and let them know i needed just the gasket. they then said they had some gaskets but that i would have to go in and point to the one i wanted in a book and it was non-returnable. seeing as how each gasket in a book will look the same i asked them to let me know which one it would be. they said they couldn't tell me since they were just the parts department and that would be something service would answer.

so now rather than talking to them they transfered me to service. as you can guess service said they don't know which part it is and that would be a parts question. they wanted to take the tire off and look at the gasket to see the part number. of course they also wanted to charge a $125 diagnostic fee plus the part for $25 and then i'd have to take it to my wheel guy to put on.

they then went on to say that the last time i was in i gave bad feedback on the survey so if i wasn't willing to help them, why should they help me. score another one for this awesome dealership that i have had nothing but headaches from. and my bad for thinking i could go to them and just get a simple $2 part. i have already given MNAO a call and they said they would forward the complaint to the district manager but what's that going to do? now i get to drive another half an hour to the next dealership and hope they are good for any items i have in the future.

I'm interested to see what works. Couldn't you just reinstall the TPMS with some silicone sealant?

if i were more handy or had the tools i could probably take them off and use a silicone sealant but it is my tire guy doing the work and he won't do that. as for part number the best i could get was from rosenthal which was FE0137142 for the gasket but no one can seem to get a hold of it.

thank you to rosenthal for getting me that far. all other dealerships have been terrible so far.

might as well ship five (one to replace the bad one and four to have if i need to move them to other wheels). let me know how much it all comes to and i'll PayPal it over. thanks for coming through on this. i don't know why none of the dealerships around here couldn't figure it out.

btw, the rant wasn't for anyone on these boards - it was more of the customer dis-service dealerships love to give around here.

any one of those dealers should be able to order them with that part no.

how soon do you need them i.e. emergency or you can get by for now?

i can probably get by for now. i'm losing about a pound every 4 hours so i have been filling up in the morning, after work, and before going to bed. should be okay doing that for a week as long as i don't let the air get too low to damage the tire (i hope). all the dealers around here were saying that the part number i gave was no longer valid and that i would have to buy the full sensor but i can definitively say they are terrible dealerships around here.

Any reputable tire shop has these. Call around in your area or click on the installation tab on Tire Rack to see shops that have a TPMS charge.

good call. i tried every tire shop and auto shop in my town after my great experience with the dealerships but hadn't really thought to check tire rack's database. looks like there's one a few towns away that can get them in by friday.

teamRX8-

if you've already ordered them let me know and i can still PayPal you that money so that you're not out. if not, i'll just call these guys and have them order the parts for me.

thanks again to everyone for their help on this. it seemed silly that a dealership wouldn't have the rebuild kits and want to sell a new one or charge a diagnostic fee to get a gasket number. it's also funny that others were able to find this part but none of the local dealers. good job CT dealerships.

I hadn't ordered them yet, I was planning to order a few odds and ends myself later today, so just let me know what you want to do

sorry you're having a problem, as far as we knew they were all fine, no leakage that we were aware of on the previous wheel set (SSR). I watched the tire shop remove each one, just unscrewed and removed them from the wheel

i'm just going to get them locally then since you haven't placed the order. i am sure they were fine before but i know that Siemens recommends replacing that gasket each time you change from one wheel to the next because of wear and tear. i certainly don't put any blame on you and am grateful you went the extra mile to help me research this. i just think mazda dealerships should be more knowledgeable on this and be able to get a simple gasket if that is the recommendation by the distributor.

looks like I'll be swapping my TPMS sensors out to other wheels and I'm wondering if anyone figured out how to get these gaskets / 'TPMS rebuild kits' ?

my mechanic got them when i changed my wheels. $8.93 i think for four.

the service manual says to either replace the gaskets or the tpms. i didn't swap them on my first set of wheels with no problem. i swapped the gaskets this time though.

try this place for tpms

if you scroll down, the rx8 is listed. the kit is 2.25. i think that's for 1 tpms.

that's actually the exact kit my local tire place got for me. i have been looking through my old notes and papers trying to figure it out but looks like you got it.
