Your post may make sense to you, because you were actually the one dealing with it.

However, re-read your post from the perspective of someone who wasn't there with you. You aren't really telling us anything useful.

Try again, and speak slowly and clearly, detail out.

Here is an excerpt of my New Owner's thread that may help you explain the situation: https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

Questions we CAN answer:
Most issues that the RX-8 faces are easily answered when you post detailed, descriptive, and accurate explanations of what symptoms you are having with your RX-8. Many of our issues share common symptoms with at least one other issue. Several of the really common issues share MOST of their symptoms with another problem. So when you post: "power loss?" We can't really tell you what is going on. We can only throw the book of possible issues at you for you to figure out.

The amount of assistance you receive is DIRECTLY associated to how much detail you provide!

So what do you need to share?

A) Break each issue you are seeing out by itself. For each of these issues, detail what RPMs it occurs in, and what RPMs it doesn't. Detail how much throttle you are giving when it occurs.
B) Detail what the ambient temperatures are that you are seeing, what the gauges are doing.
C) If you have a CEL, GIVE US THE CODE! (most auto-parts stores will pull the code for free for you. Otherwise, you can buy a code reader for LESS than the dealer's diagnostic price, giving you a discount on that one, and free code pulling for the rest of the device's life, across every car you own) (Hint, search with Google and site:rx8club.com <CEL> before posting. You will probably find your answer.)
D) Detail any possible modifications or repairs that have been made within the last 3,000 miles, even if it seems like it's not related.
E) Detail the age and mileage of the car, and what maintenance history it has been on. NOT just "it's gotten regular maintenance" because there are wear items that are not part of "regular maintenance" for dealers and most shops.
F) Since many issues are ignition related, and you are going to get asked, give us the mileage and age of ignition coils, wires, and plugs.
G) Detail out when it DOESN'T happen. This is just as critical as when it does!

Another thing to keep in mind is that unless you are being a complete jackass, and unless the person responding to you is ignorant about the issues, our answers are going to be pretty accurate, if not dead on. Even if you don't like the option. We have no stake in your finances, no stake in making money off of it. We DON'T like to see unhealthy or busted 8s. So if you choose to ignore our recommendations, do so at your own peril, and don't come whining to us that you shoveled money at the problem that was completely unneeded.

Have the battery tested first and go from there. Autozone will do it for free.

haha my bad just extremely frustrated :P
start my car fine then went to the gas station get some stuff/car wash went through it then went to a buddies house went there for a few hours and when i went to leave it would only click like no crank to the engine at all thought it was the battey except the lights and all of that worked, so we tried jumping it any how just to see and had no results. after that i went through and looked for the starter couldn't it so we just pushed started it just so i could get home. once i got here i let it sit for a while went back out to go see if the problem still existed and it does.

RIWWP 04-27-2012 09:36 PM

Of the starting steps, when it is "just clicking", it usually means that the starter is not turning over the engine, and it's the starter relay that is pulsing creating the clicks.

It is possible that the battery is just drained too far (no battery fully recharges from just driving around). It's also possible that your starter crapped out on you. (incidentally, the starter is against the side of the transmission, driver's side. Depending on how low you are, you might be able to glimpse it from behind the driver's wheel)

Since you got it push started, it's not a flooding or seize issue.

So, battery or starter.

alright well could it getting wet have effected it at all? i talked to a mechanic and he said it was possible but he didnt know for sure so if so ill wait it out and hope it dries up and runs cus it been workin 100% the whole time i've had it.

RIWWP 04-27-2012 09:57 PM

Yes. Quite a few times I have run into no-start situations for my 8 and my Miata after heavy rains. Each time I end up getting it started.

Most of the time, it has been my battery terminals, the moisture accelerating corrosion and the terminals loosening their electrical contact surface enough prevent the starter from drawing the full power it needs. Checking your battery, and disconnecting/reconnecting the clamps from the terminals could solve your issue.

StealthTL 04-27-2012 10:25 PM

It's always the terminals.

owicked 04-27-2012 11:15 PM

alright well in the morning imma take the battery to autozone an hope that the problem haha if not i guess im going to have to find the starter and give it some taps and replace it, is it visible from the top or am i going to have to jack it up to get a view of it?

RIWWP 04-28-2012 07:47 AM

It's not visible from the top.

If you are going to go through the trouble of disconnecting the battery to pull it out, could you please just take another moment and reconnect it again after disconnecting? Then try starting.

If it's just your terminals as we all expect, it will correct the problem without you going anywhere. Though you seem to not be reading this recommendation when suggested earlier....

Can't say I readily see the correlation between a used up clutch and a clicking starter (single click or multiple clicks) that won't turn the motor over. Maybe you'll never have the no-start issue again; or then again maybe you will have it happen again in some cold, dark, and unfriendly place where there will be no push start option and no cellular coverage to call for a rescue. :mchase:

owicked 04-28-2012 04:01 PM

haha hope not the only thing im worrying about now is finding the 600 bucks for a new clutch kit

VOODOO8 04-28-2012 04:14 PM

For a little extra dough, you might want to check this out: SR Motorsports kit number RE-13120HD.

Next to the ignition coil replacement kit from Black Halo Racing this has been one of the better upgrades I have done on my 2003 build ride. If you do go the SR Motorsports kit route, tell them to be sure to include the full set of fasteners that are supposed to be in the kit. They were missing in mine (and like a dumbass I didn't catch it) and then had to run around to get them when the kit was installed.
