Wierd Exhaust Noise

Hello,

I am wondering if the noise coming from my exhaust sounds normal. I have a 2005 RX8 auto transmission. This sound is after a long drive with a mix of highway and city driving.

Here is the link to the video:

Any ideas?

Only thing I can think of is the cat material is falling apart and restricting flow.
And this is creating inconsistent "pops".
Have you noticed a decrease in performance?
Might be a shot in the dark, but if you have a local 8 that has a spare mid-pipe or cat, ask if you can throw it on just to see if things change.

Miles on Engine would help. Youtube videos can be deceiving when it comes to sound

Sounds like it's time for a new engine. Sounds like it's missing/backfiring a little bit.
But as Pico said youtube videos ,,,never know.

Yes, I realize that a youtube video is deceptive. The mileage on the car is 106,000 km.

It only makes this sound after a long drive.

It doesn't sound particularly good. It's hard to tell from the Youtube video, but an ignition issue could cause similar behaviour (I had times where my FC sounded like that).

Really? So, missing/backfiring like that is not normal? (I'm not trying to be funny or anything, this is a serious question). Mine has been doing that for a couple of months now.

As far as loss of power, I don't know..it's being tuned by MM, so it feels a heck of a lot better than is was...so??

Burbling at idle is kind of a normal thing for the RX8. At least it's not uncommon. Fluctuations in the exhaust note could be caused by a minor ignition issue. Fouled plug, Bad coil/plug wire. Searching by the ECU for fuel trims.
The video I was responding to had a bit different sound then the normal idle burble sound. The sounds were not your average noise coming from a rotary engine exhaust.

Exhaust upgraded to exotic speed for 6 months now and everyday or so i will here a small backfire when I shift. Usually when I am on the gas hard and shift i hear a small pop pop backfire. Usually happens only from 1st -to- 2nd & 2nd -to- third. I think it's due to giving a lot of gas during acceleration, but Is this normal ?
