This is driving me nuts. What is that and what goes to that and from where.
I add oil and it drips out of this tube:

Is that a nipple? There should not be one there expect for a vacuum port which oil should not be dripping out of. But that picture sucks.

It's not one of those, it is opposite the oil filter and it is plastic.

That's a bit difficult on a small Greek island. I'm probably the most rotary go to guy here unfortunately. I have learned most things through this forum and do most everything myself.

Thank you for this reply. I can't understand how oil drips from there when I add oil though. Is it ok to leave it as is? Any drivability concerns?

Ok, if I'm seeing it right they added a nipple and PCV evacuation hose there on later RX8s, I think mid 2006 on. There should be a hose that attaches to it. If not it could just be capped off.

I have been looking all day for where the hose goes etc. But have found nothing. There is definitely no vacuum there with the engine running. Capping it with my finger open closed makes no difference to idle etc. I'm sure it should connect somewhere.

Maybe it's the nipple in the second picture on this thread; guy with a 2005 was swapping on a UIM from a later model year:

It wont have any vaccum. It could be capped off, except that if there is a hose that was supposed to be attached and now it's not that would be bad. That hose would attach to the intake boot before the throttle body. If it's not connected the engine would be sucking in unfiltered air through it. It would also cause the engine to run lean because air would be coming into the intake after the MAF sensor.

So you need to make sure there's not a missing or disconnected hose

Ok, capped it off today. Apparently there is no hose going there and both tubes on the accordion tube are definitely sucking air in at idle so they are connected to something.

My LTFT at idle is at +0.8% so definitely not running lean.

Seems to be not doing anything. I would be interested however to know how to make use of it. Where it connects or tees into etc.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I do very extensive searches before I open a thread. Couldn't find anything on it.

On the later models that connects to a hose that then connects to a metal pipe that goes over to the center of the lower intake manifold above the exhaust manifold which it then has another short piece of hose that connects the metal pipe to the jet air piping for the primary intake ports.

Wow, a catch can sounds much easier. Thanks for all the great info TeamRX8. I have a Sohn and I never noticed the nipple as I don't add oil often. Only every 7-10000km at oil change time. We had removed the oil pan as it had a few leaks and then after new glue etc we started adding oil and saw that some was dripping to the floor and that is how we discovered it. The car is a 2005 but had an engine change at 2007, part of the intake manifold was replaced in 2013 as it was cracked, so somewhere along that line the newer part was put in the car. They obviously didn't take the time to cap it.
