ON What is this attached to my ECU??!!

I took my car out yesterday for the 1st time since i parked it. I had just recently added the racing beat duct and taken all the baffels out of my stock air box. When i hit high rpms around 8000 the car kind of sputterd and then rapidly accelerated. I searched this last night and started going through everthing that was mentioned and ended up taking my ecu cover off finding a greddy box plugged into the ecu with what looks like a partial harness.

I guess i should tell some background of the car that will probably help. The motor was replaced prior to me buying it because the dealer wanted to get rid of the turbo set up. The turbo and intercooler were also taken with the old motor. The car has a hks legamax cat back on it but i think thats all the aftermarket parts left on the car. Could this black box have something to do with the high rpm sputter since i have now changed the airflow could this box have been programmed for the turbo set up

Appears the Greddy Emangle is still attached and functioning. Look behind your glove box for the Emangle, or just follow the harness (the smooth one)and see where it goes. Once you find it, un plug the batt, depress the bake pedal for 20 sec (helps drain any stored residual charge), remove Emanlge (Emanage). plug in stock harness and re-connect Batt.
Preform the NVram reset procedure to clear the E-Shaft sensor profile.

So i found it. It was under the passenger foot area. What exactly does this do. Is it only for being turboed.

I cant tell you much about it but it's part of a Greddy Emanage system. guessing as you didn't put this in there that you bought this used? Link below shows you what it is. You have to search for additional details (there will be lots on this forum)

Well if you got a new engine then that is good I guess depending on who rebuilt it, etc.

its a secondary ECU that adjusts the original so the fuel map is adjusted for Turbo setup.

I guess but why bother? It has no real use really even if the car was turboed. The emanage never really worked well on the RX8.

i was thinking of getting an accessport but how hard would this be to sell. it was once worth $900 and if it never really worked properly would there be any interest in it

It's not popular here at all but the 240SX guys love them, try and sell it there.

Good luck on fixing the stutter.

And you should have no problem selling the emanage. The Ultimate is actually a very nice unit with a lot of good options and potential. A shame it isn't very effective on a n/a RX-8.

Stutter seems to be all gone I've been driving without the emanage hooked up for a couple days. I cleared the nvram and the car runs smoother and better than before I parked it. Thanks for all the help.

Im confused, they gave you a new engine but didn't replace the ECU after being piggybacked? I guess they are lucky enough that the ecu didn't have some crazy tune that would not marry well with an NA engine.

They probably didn't even know it was there. I too am surprised the car ran well at all if it was tuned for turbo use.

It always idled a bit off but ran good I only had it on the road for 3 months till I parked it for winter. It runs much different now. It had the work done from a Subaru dealer so I never got to talk to him. When I had questions about the work that was done they could only tell me it was a new motor and the turbo components were all out which obviously they werent

You may want to hit the dealer and find out if you have the latest flash from Mazda.

Does it cost anything to have it done. Also is there anything I should look for now to see if there will be more surprises or maybe any parts I should look into replacing just in case the bad tune messed with something
