I don't think so, when I got it, the salesman had it filled up halfway with 88 unleaded fuel, when I had it and found out about it (it died, but gently died) I asked what he had put in it. since then whenever it got to halfway I filled it back to the brim on premium

Um, there you go. 88 octane can certainly blow your engine. 89 is only "safe" if the engine already dying, 91 octane is the minimum safe octane on a healthy engine, 93 preferred if you can get it.
Was it the cause for certain? No, just a guess here. But yes it requires premium due to the compression ratio, and only with failing compression will it not heat the charge to dangerous levels at lower octane. High octane is needed to prevent this heat from causing detonation, which as mentioned in the last reply of mine, can shatter the seals. Which is sounds like your seals were destroyed.
Back to what I mentioned about a moment of inattention... You very well might have a case here to make sure that the dealer gives you a new engine without even involving the warranty company. Their mistake that was contrary to the manual and even the sticker inside the gas cap.

Hi RIWWP.
Thanks for the clarification.
I did experience the power cut during the hard left on low fuel. That was my concern recently when I was troubleshooting.
It was at high RPM on a banked interstate highway and I also had a strong odor of motor oil.
Blown seal was the first thing I thought of.
I did not know the specifics of this problem.
Thanks again.

OK, I'm wrong again. Didn't know that low octane could be that hazardous.
I'll butt out now.

he sent it to a mazda dealership so they could do more

That's too bad. Sounds like RIWWP was right.
Hope it's not too bad.
