Ugh Car wont start, possibly flooded.

well gentlemen i have officially joined the i flooded my motor group lol, she had been recently very hesitant to start and sluggish above 7k rpms. i already had in mind that my tune up was coming but i guess it came earlier, i know its an electrical prob because she cranks and there is fuel going to the motor.

i recently dished out $280 for the plug's,wires, and coils; once i receive that i will attempt the DIY in here to deflood the motor. i was so close to buying the BHR kit but i needed the items now; i know im going to feel regret not buying them lol

sorry for the random post, i just needed to vent a bit

mushkid 05-06-2010 09:47 PM

ok i know i'm gonna get flamed for this but, i replaced all of the plugs, coils and wires. i also needed a new battery; long story short i ended up with the wrong battery and installed it incorrectly (positve to negative, negative to positive) i took it back and got the correct battery. it sparked pretty bad and the alarm came on instantly, its currently 10:41pm and i cant check any of the fuses right now.

now i just need a straight answer, could i have possibly fried my pcm? or reset it?. when i put the key in the ignition the dash board lights up, my headlights work but my radio doesn't. and when i try cranking it, i get no response almost as if the battery was dead.

please help me with this situation i need this problem fixed.

I think u only blew a few fuses - best case scenario

Mazurfer 05-07-2010 07:25 AM

You most likely blew the 120A main fuse. You can get it from the dealer at under $10.00. That fuse is there to protect the PCM and lots of other stuff, so you are probably okay.
It's not a "normal" looking fuse. It's at the back of the engine bay fuse box, on the left, and sort of on the side.
I've never done it, but I helped a couple of people who did exactly what you did.....before I got there!

mushkid 05-07-2010 07:48 AM

Thank god for awesome people like you guys!!!!! i havent checked the fuses yet because i am at work, but it's relieving to hear that!.

mushkid 05-07-2010 08:43 AM

another thing is that the remote FOB does not lock or unlock the door,

mushkid 05-07-2010 09:22 AM

is it possible that the pcm could have been reseted? i have another key should i try that first?

mushkid 05-07-2010 11:59 AM

anyone?

Mazurfer 05-07-2010 03:22 PM

You gotta get to that 120A fuse and see if it's blown. There are very, very few things on the car that will work if that is blown.
Like I said, I've seen others do it by hooking up a battery backwards, so I have little doubt that's what it is. In terms of anything else wrong, I will go find the last thread where someone did this and hopefully you will feel better by reading it.
Check back in this post and see if I found the thread.

Here's another one......but as it turns out....he didn't hook everything back up to the positive terminal of that battery! (he he he)

and, one more for your reading pleasure!

Keep in mind, that this might not be your only issue, but you have to start there!
I don't really like what you described about your slow starts and no power above 7k......that's usually a sign of lost compression, but in order to get to that..........since you put in new plugs, wires, and coils, we have to ge the car started first, then we can see if the rest helped, or if your initial issue is still there. If it is....then you should probably search "seafoam" or go have the compression checked.

mushkid 05-07-2010 03:57 PM

yea, i read those threads and i felt alot better.

i called the dealer and they are charging $4.95 for the fuse, i'm gonna go home soon and i'm going to start my hunt for blown fuses

so i checked the fuses, and the 120 watt fuse is blown down the middle. my wipers work but my trunk release button doesn't. hopefully tomorrow when i buy the fuse i will finally get her running

mushkid 05-10-2010 08:09 AM

well guys i got her running(!!yay!!) lol, i followed the owners manual on starting a flooded engine. she cranks ok; i thought it would have started faster because i got a new battery also. now i am having an issue; she is kinda hesitant at low rpms and sometimes struggles to get into higher rpms, did i do something wrong? i put everything in the proper order L-T-L-T, and the the coils, plugs, and wires were bran spankin new.

i didnt gap the plugs, i assumed they already camed gapped. is there something else i was supposed to do?

Did you do the 20 brake tap reset? I'm not sure it will help, but it can't hurt while I think of other things!
You can search on how to do this reset, but basically it's:

Turn the car on, but don't start it.
Tap the brake pedal real quicjk about 20 times until the oil gauge sweeps to the right and back to the left.
Turn the car off and wait 10 seconds
Start as normal.

After you do this twenty brake tap reset, the car will reset the fuel trims and need to re-learn them, so it might not want to idle real well for a couple of drive cycles.

I would also re-check all your wires and make sure they are seated properly at both ends.

Your original problem was stated to be "very hesitant to start and sluggish above 7k rpms", and that's a sign of low compression, so it may be off to the dealer if things don't settle down.

May have missed it, but what year is your cxar and how many miles?

Fuel pump failing?

mushkid 05-10-2010 12:50 PM

I was having problems with getting into high rpms, but after i did the tune up; the problem dissapered, now it's more in between 3-5k, and it's only when i am lightly pressing on the gas pedal.

i have a 2004 mt rx8, and she currently has 82,725 on the original motor.

i though of that, i have read that our fuel pump sucks, so i was going to replace the fuel filter and take a look at the pump.

judging on a few things( ex: barely any oil in the motor) and knowing that the last two previous owners leased the car for their bussiness, i can safely say that this car was badly mistreated, when i removed the plugs and coils; it seemed that they weren't changed at all.
