Typhoon V.2 Issue.

ive had my Typhoon on for about 1000 miles now and its giving me a little bit of a problem now.

when i start my car cold, it bogs out around 6k rpms. it doesnt come out of it...... ill drive it around granny shifting at 4-5k rpms, and once the temp gauge moves from cold it will come out of the bogging and redline just fine. i didnt do anything custom just installed it to specifications. the first time i noticed a vaccum line disconnected but i reconnected and checked them all and it is still doing it?

any info on this? thanks in advance!

Your car will bog down around 5K regardless of the intake, its to protect your engine. Your probably just *hear* it more now with the loud ass intake.

Id recommend you stop abusing your engine.

ryebread929 12-25-2008 07:58 PM

i really dont abuse my engine at all..... when it comes to revving ive heard the shift beep maybe once or twice. i noticed it after installing it only and it was going down the road from my house. wanted to make sure it wasnt a MAF problem or anything, it isnt like i jump in it and race away.

DrewMan 12-25-2008 08:17 PM

you shouldnt take the engive over 4k before it reaches its optimal temp!

so id say that theres nothign wrong with your car

just be careful

you obviously have been abusing it. you shouldnt ever have the motor over 3.5-4K rpms ot under any significant load until you reach approx 180 water/oil temps

now you know though :)

as it stands my 8 is sitting covered in the garage as i live in NH and we already have 2 feet of snow... so i browse on here for a midpipe, AP, rotors, and pulleys lol

since your car is in the garage, take the time to read the owners manual..

if you dont you are going to ask a lot more stupid questions like your op..

Welcome to the family Ryebread. You'll find people here who will give you great information to reasonable requests for assistance but little tolerance for drivers of our beloved chariot who won't invest the time and effort to get to know about this vehicle before coming to the family with an ask for us to invest our time in your problem.

About your point regarding engine replacements: How many miles on the 04? Still running the original factory powerplant I assume? What dealer do you work with normally? Have you had a compression test documented on the vehicle yet?

If no compression figures established yet in a test by a reputable service provider, I would stongly suggest dropping a couple of C notes on same. You will be well served by periodically tracking this data, especially as you start adding additional performance items on your ride.

thanks for the input from a fellow NH member.... i have 36k miles on the original powerplant, all updates have been done but i dont think i have any compression checks on file, at least i have never had it done. and i would most likely be working with grappone mazda in Bow NH. they are a very large dealership and the closest to me.

i would probably hafta take off my typhoon and catback if i were to go to them for a diag? so i wouldnt be a ccused of voiding any warranties??

A search will pull you a lot of information on this topic. Here is an example: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/does-aftermarket-intake-void-your-warranty-122674/. Never worked with Grappone myself, have done most of my work with Warner (and its predecessor) since 2003. Mark is the rotary master tech there and has always done top-notch work for me over the years, including a number of compression checks.

it just depends on the dealer, i have never had one flinch at the stuff on my car.

and they put a lightweight flywheel in for me while the motor was out.
