Trouble With RX8
Today my 2005 rx8 would not start, cranks but will not fire. Checked spark, ok Pulled the spark plugs out, they are dry, with all that cranking they should be wet. replaced with new ones. sprayed some gas down the intake, it attempted to start. Fuel problem, not injecting, checked fuses, ok. relays seem to be clicking. leaning towards ecu failure? hate to buy new one with out confirmation. difficult to find diagnostic meter that works for RX8 in Jamaica country side. last time i tried it would not detect it. Will try again tomorrow, also will check fuel pressure.
Any thoughts or meter reading to confirm ecu not sending a signal to inject would be great.
Thanks for any help.

"Checked fuses" how?
A quick look-see for blackened ones won't do, you must check with a meter.
Are you seeing the check engine light?
Will it fire up with a shot of starting ether?
Code readers are $60 on Ebay......

Thanks for the response.
checked fuses with avo meter,OK.
I pulled the fuel line, switched the ignition on and it pumped fine.Have not found any starting fluid yet, tried bug spray, but that only works on conventional engines and diesels. Engine check light was not on the day it ran, it is on now, but it will not start, i believe it always comes on until started?then goes out when started. the last time it came on i had two dead coils, changed all four with wires.
vehicle has 53000 km, no abuse, change oil regularly with castrol synthetic, never smoked, ran great.
I disconnected the battery for a while to reset things, no difference.
Hate to do that as it usually messes up the idle for a while.
Leaning back to ECU not injecting. Going to find a diagnostic meter, if it works, what would the codes be for ECU problems?
Thanks for your time,
Phillip

Hi To all,
Not quite sure what i did, but it is running again.
Got the diagnostic meter, told me nothing helpful. ended up pulling out ecu, plugging in and out any electrical plugs visible. I have been using my spare key for some time, went back to the remote key. after cranking it for while it began to kick, now getting the smell of fuel. pulled the injection fuse and fuel relay out, kept cracking, with starter cooling intervals, put the fuse and relay back, and it started. running like nothing ever happened. scared to try other key in case it messes it up again.
All the best to you and your RX8.

OK so last night I got off work n my car seem like it was flooded I tried to turn it on but nothing. I went home came back today n on the first crank it turned on. MAJOR PROBLEM It had a weird noise coming from the engine. I didnt notice any smoke come out but it had the smell of gas coming from it.The check engine was on I let it warmed up thinking it was still flooded. "Dsc off" light was flashing. And after warmed up I took it around the parking lot but my car did not Rev over 3000rpm on neutral; first gear same, I shifted to second gear and it didn't want to go above 2000rpm.......... I didn't even make it to 15mph. Idk but lots of compression lost. Im 21 this is my first car and it Was used 2005 with 72000 miles on it. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Questions we CAN answer:
Most issues that the RX-8 faces are easily answered when you post detailed, descriptive, and accurate explanations of what symptoms you are having with your RX-8. Many of our issues share common symptoms with at least one other issue. Several of the really common issues share MOST of their symptoms with another problem. So when you post: "power loss?" We can't really tell you what is going on. We can only throw the book of possible issues at you for you to figure out.
The amount of assistance you receive is DIRECTLY associated to how much detail you provide!
So what do you need to share?
A) Break each issue you are seeing out by itself. For each of these issues, detail what RPMs it occurs in, and what RPMs it doesn't. Detail how much throttle you are giving when it occurs.
B) Detail what the ambient temperatures are that you are seeing, what the gauges are doing.
C) If you have a CEL, GIVE US THE CODE! (most auto-parts stores will pull the code for free for you. Otherwise, you can buy a code reader for LESS than the dealer's diagnostic price, giving you a discount on that one, and free code pulling for the rest of the device's life, across every car you own) (Hint, search with Google and site:rx8club.com <CEL> before posting. You will probably find your answer.)
D) Detail any possible modifications or repairs that have been made within the last 3,000 miles, even if it seems like it's not related.
E) Detail the age and mileage of the car, and what maintenance history it has been on. NOT just "it's gotten regular maintenance" because there are wear items that are not part of "regular maintenance" for dealers and most shops.
F) Since many issues are ignition related, and you are going to get asked, give us the mileage and age of ignition coils, wires, and plugs.
G) Detail out when it DOESN'T happen. This is just as critical as when it does!
Another thing to keep in mind is that unless you are being a complete jackass, and unless the person responding to you is ignorant about the issues, our answers are going to be pretty accurate, if not dead on. Even if you don't like the option. We have no stake in your finances, no stake in making money off of it. We DON'T like to see unhealthy or busted 8s. So if you choose to ignore our recommendations, do so at your own peril, and don't come whining to us that you shoveled money at the problem that was completely unneeded.
