Time for the yearly bump.

My tail shaft seal has failed yet another time at 52k miles. The bastids charged for the repair this time, which is total bs. Currently working w/my local dealer and MNAO to recoup my money and resolve the underlying issue. It's been two weeks since the car was in and I haven't heard a word yet.

The seal fails during extended periods of time at highway speed, 500+ miles, speeds in the 70's, rpms in low 4k range. This has happened every time I've been on a road trip. Counting the original and replacements I am now on my 5th seal..this is getting old. Pretty confident I could get it to fail today if I were to hop in my car and start driving.

Any thoughts, ideas out there?

hi, i have the same exact problem. I had mine fixed 5 times already and everytime it failed again after around 3 month. My car drives fine even its leaking. Do you ever find out what's the cause of the problem? I wonder if replacing the tranny entirely will solve the problem??

Check to see if the vent hole is plugged.

dont mean to hijact teh thread but, I smell oil burning in the morning, but only when it starts out cold and I put the car in gear, then I smell burning for a brief period of time then its gone, but there are no pool or anything on the floor though, does this also point to leaking tranny seal as well?

Bringing this up from the dead, I have my trans out for a clutch job, and it looks like my tailshaft seal has been leaking. My problem is, I can't find the seal anywhere. Is this a dealer-only part?
