Strange high pitch underhood buzzing at startup
Latley, On cold starts, my car fires right up, but for the 1st minute or so--there is a loud and high pitch electronic buzzing/whirring sound from the left side of the engine bay.
It goes away after the car runs for just a minute or so, and only happens when the car has been sitting for hours, i.e. over night.
So it seems to have something to do with the startup idle at cold temps--any ideas?

Are you in the US?
Left side when looking from the front of the car into the engine bay?
Most likely your air pump(used to heat up exhaust for emissions).
Not critical, but do some searches and use "air pump" as search criteria.

It's the air pump then, you could unplug it to confirm if you really want to do so. It doesn't mean it bad however, so you need to do some reading.
Have no idea if made by Bosch or not.
Here's but two of many threads!

My air pump whines on very cold days recently. Perhaps the bearings in the turbine are going. I dont mind because when friends are around, they wonder what type of modification I did to my RX8 . I will probably tinker with it one day and replace the bearings with inline skate bearings.
