Im not sure but have you tried reading up on maybe a security system in the radio? I don't about the rx8 but some vehicles have a security device that disables them if removed so that they wont get stolen? just a research thought.

Make sure all the plugs in the back are completely pushed in. I had some trouble with mine when I put everything back together yesterday. I was getting no power to my radio but the air worked. After a nights rest I found out the black audio jack looking plug in the back wasn't pushed alll the way in. Best of luck

What were you doing/experiencing that caused you to remove your stereo to begin with?

Solution!

Okay, this is a very common issue for anyone who has tried to remove the faceplate of their stereo, and I've spent the last three or so weeks dealing with this issue myself and believe I finally figured out the solution. The faceplate plugs into the stereo via two sockets on either side of the stereo itself. The sockets are flexible so that if some idiot who doesn't have any idea what they're doing >.> tries to force it on there, it doesn't get broken. The consequence of this is that it becomes a bit difficult to get the faceplate aligned with the sockets without causing them to bend out of the way enough to cause a faulty connection. What you will need to do is remove the faceplate again by removing the four alignment screws and the two connectors on either side(not to be confused with the pin-socket that is actually part of the stereo/faceplate) and take a look at those sockets. Make sure they are both aligned straight ahead and undamaged. Then, with the help of the four alignment screw holes on the outside edge of the faceplate, line up the stereo with the faceplate and push it back onto the stereo, being very careful to make sure those pin-sockets get aligned properly. What you can do then is turn the stereo around to the back and you will be able to see the sockets through a gap in the stereo casing. Gently take a flat-head screwdriver or some other blunt object and press on the plugs to make sure they are properly aligned and well seated between the faceplate and the stereo.
Hope this helps. I am certain it is the solution to the problem that everyone has been having though because I have been dealing with this, as I said, for weeks. I even bought a new stereo because I thought I just damaged something permanently in the old one somehow, but now it works fine and I gotta sell the other. If it's too complicated to understand with words alone, let me know and I may try to get some pictures... not that I feel like taking apart my two working stereos for the bajillionth time, but it could be worth it to help some people out.
Oh and for the people wondering why you would be taking your stereo apart to begin with, usually it is either A. To do some weird iPod mod or in my case B. To fix the heater temperature control **** whose factory solder joints tend to melt.
