Starting And Cutting Out Problems

Hi,
Basically i just thought id ask on here and see if anyone has any idea as to whats wrong, only owned the car about a month and when i got it it had no problems but now after only 2000 miles its become very problematic im getting
- Hot start problems takes a good 5 minutes before it will start
- Cutting out at high rpm like 6k and above its started just cutting out which as its also got the hot start problem its a real pain to get going again

Im just wondering if they can both be linked to compression or if there is a chance something else could be causing it? like could a dying fuel pump cause hot start problems and high rpm cut out?

The car is a 2004 manual 71k

Had oil serviced 2k ago, plugs 10k ago and starter motor is the updated one not sure when coils were last done

Thanks

No one any ideas? would the cutting out be likely to store a error code of some kind?

Hot start problems...Sounds like your engine is on its way out. Just what i read before on other threads. Hope I'm wrong :S

Thanks yeah it does seem to be the general idea around here hot starts equal new engine :( i was just hoping it could be something else with the high rpm cut out but after reading around more its probably more likely two problems my luck haha :(

cutting out after. 6k? sounds more like bad coils and/or bad cat to me

and you do know starter dies slowly but surely, right?

Thanks for the reply, im going to try the coils tomorrow all going well and see about the cat and ive tried changing the starter but that was no good just same
Could coils or cat actually cause the hot start aswell or is it going to be two problems?

Coils, convertor, or fuel pump could be the issue.
Since you said you already replaced the starter, I will leave that one out of the possibilities.

Could the cat actually cause hot start problems or just high rpm cut out? ive tried changing the coils although it runs better not had to chance to try seeing if it cuts out but still hot start problems only thing if it cant be cat is compression and engine on way out then itll have to go :(

Hot start does tend to point to bad compression unfortunately, the high RPM cut out is a weird one, any CELs?
