SPLIT BROKEN DRIVERSIDE VISORS. driver side visor

This is just a post to let you know or future searches:

My driverside sun visor split in half, I called the dealership and if you still have warranty they will replace it for free. UNDER WARRANTY.

The dealership said that its common for 04, 05 RX-8's so, save yourself some bucks!

Hey, somebody check the part number on your broken visor if you can find it. We all wanted to know not too long back whether or not they were replaced with an identical visor, or an upgraded visor. I still have the part # from the new one, but don't have the old part #.

I know one thing, the dealer said they were roughly $100 a piece last year when they replaced both of mine under warranty.

mine just broke yesterday. 06 I am assuming the dealership will not give me any problems, but I will post if they do. Don't know the part number.

Mine broke today on my 2 month old 06'. You'd think they would find a fix for this problem!

just took it in to my dealer service today. While I stood there the guy went to the back, got a new one, replaced it, and said "All fixed have a great day." I really hope that is how they handle any other problems I come across.

Mine broke earlier this week. '04, MT 18,000miles. I'll get it replaced at the next oil change.

Was it broken when you did this, or did you do it before it broke completely in half?

Well, mine fell apart 3 weeks ago on '06 Shinka. Had to wait 1 1/2 weeks for a replacement. Used the replacement 3 or 4 times and it broke again.

Flimsy design if you asked me. They should've been molded. Now, I am waiting again for the replacement. Supposedly, there is a back-order. I'm surprised to see so many that had the same problem.

my car was built in June of 03- so my sunvisors have been in the car over 3 years now- no cracks or breakage. so far . i swear i think the early 2004 cars are built of better stuff than the later 2004 and onward cars.

I have a 06 Shinka as well and my visor broke after 2 weeks of ownership. I asked the dealer if I could just pick up a new one but they said since it is warrentee work they have to do it. I need to get the new one ordered now.

2006 Base 6MT, 1022 miles, exactly 12 DAYS since delivery... Climbed in the car today and found it broken, probably been broken since the last time I drove the car on Monday when I folded the visor back up. High desert heat probably damaged the soft plastic where the visor clamps together.

Update to my previous post: My dealer is completely out of visors until the second week of September. WTF? Is there an updated visor on the way?

Another one bites the dust.

I have been through 6 of these sunvisors. They just crack in half and hang by the wires. Our dealership has been good to replace them every time, but frankly, I am getting a bit tired of going in to get them replaced. You would think they would come up with a new design. I thought it was because of our Arizona heat. It gets up to 130 degrees in the closed cab during the summer! It just seems to melt those poor plastic sunvisors.

I've had 4 replaced since May of this year. The two brand new ones look like they are ready to split again and I haven't even moved them. Can they not just put in a cloth visor from another model?

I have also had the driver's side visor break TWICE within a 2 month period. I'm not rough on the visor whatsoever. Mine also split all along the backside... VERY irritating.

Both were covered under warranty, however I am approaching 50,000 miles on my '04 and am concerned that the next one that breaks will be $120 out of MY pocket

I have had my 06' about 2 weeks and the drivers side visor ripped the inside piece that hold it on and cracked the entire left side open. It was so bad that I ended up having to remove the wired and take the visor off because it kept droping down when I was driving.

tell me about it, these broken visors are a pain. mine broke on my 06 shinka after two months. they had to order them and it took 3 1/2 weeks to come in. mazda has not updated them yet, so i suspect it will happen again.

Wow, when mine broke it took a week and they had the new one ready for me. That one has been fine since and I use it everyday.

I hope they are making a new version

I think the issue here is that they are a "pop-together" design. Repeated failures seem to occur in high heat environments like those in the SW US states. I will probably get my new visors (yes, pass side is failing now too), carefully pull them apart and epoxy the hell out of the pop-together joints! End of the problem forever, as far as I'm concerned. I can't do this with the driver's side one though because it's basically destroyed. I might be able to do this with the passenger's side though.

Perhaps we need to organize a group buy on plastic epoxy?
