I've been patiently waiting to hear something from my dealership regarding my 8 and I haven't heard from them since I called on Friday. I'll call them up tomorrow morning and see what the deal is. My guess is that they are still "waiting for the Mazda engineers to take a look at it". We'll see.

So that rumor I heard is true about an engine recall. I know you can't "tell all", but is Mazda just checking for certain issues, and is it just for models built in 03-04 or all renisis engines?

Ok, I wasn't sure what yrs that included. If I had a new engine (reman) put in 2 weeks ago will that fall into the recall dates?

Yup, still waiting for the engineer to take a look at it. Hopefully they know more tomorrow. Damn, as of today, it's been at the dealership for 27 consecutive days (including weekends). I can't believe I'm still pretty sane after such a long time. What another few days right? vegas.

Joining the club

As of today I too am now getting a replacement engine=( I had all the same problems, really rough idle, wierd knocking and pinging noises, and stalling/lag feeling to it. I was talking with one of the techs they said it was because for a long time the engine wasn't intaking enough oil to keep the car cool. So the engine was getting way too hot, which causes warping and all kinds of other problems inside it. So there now switching to a direct injection. I hope this really works. I love this car and hate to have to sell it, because it causes too many problems. I live in Indiana so its not always that hot.

I apologise if this is already posted.

Just a hint when you replace the engine.
With the new engine It is possible to get CEL code : P0300, P0301, P0302.

This is not a problem.

Vegas RX8 Saga Continues..........

Zoom44, yes my 8 is Manual & no Mike Allen hasn't been around. They've had an engineer from California (Paul) look and sign off on it as okay. So I get the call this morning and follow the usual steps, take the rental back, have them drop me off at dealership and wait for car.

They drive up the car for me to finally take it home, I sit in it for maybe 3 seconds and I look at the dash...........oh no, the check engine light is on. F#*k!! I step out and inform the service guy, he can't believe it either. He goes back to talk to the service tech, they call the engineer from Cali (Paul) and then inform me that they need to have the engineer come from Cali and see what the hell the problem is. So now I think I will just have to make the call to Mazda USA and find out what my options are at this point because they obviously can't figure out what the hell is going on. The service guys/techs at the dealership don't know what else to do so all they can do is have the Mazda engineers direct them. Meanwhile I've already missed 2 more hours of work and still in another god damn rental, another Exploder. ****.

vegas.

Anyone have any ideas? I had a new engine put in 2 weeks ago and now when I start it or sometimes at idle the idle is bouncing up to 1500-2000k then back down again!

after my first engine replacement everything seemed perfect...a better sound...better MPG...better power. Then almost two years later with no warning "pop", on to the next engine.

Well, you can add me to the new engine list, as of today !! We took my 8 in because the license plate screws were stripped. We tried everything we could to get the old plates off. We were worried we might mess around & hit a air bag senor, so we just took it in to the dealer.
As an after thought, I told my husband to tell the service manager that the 8 had stalled at a full stop, a few times. And didn't want to idle.
Well, today they called us & said that they ran a engine diagnostic & a compression test, & even though the compression test was good, the data they sent to Mazda showed "something" that indicated that an engine replacement was required. My husband ask just what the "something" was, & the service manager said they weren't told by Mazda what was wrong, just that the engine was to be replaced.
This blows my mind !! The car was not running badly at all. It had only acted funky that one time. And had been fine ever since. It's a manual & I drive it hard, & it runs great. I'm just can't believe this has happened. I didn't find out about this until the service department was gone. We know the service manager personally & I'm going to call them tomorrow & see if I can get more info. I'm still in shock...

Your service department decided that $6600 worth of warranty work was too good to pass up and replaced the engine by stating the problem was still duplicating. If you ever had a stored code for pinging or misfire, they could use that to say the engine may have been damaged in an undetectable way/.
I guess I may never know. But I do know I'm not happy. The service manager we know didn't work today. And the service writer that my husband spoke with said that he didn't have any info as to why Mazda ordered a new engine. But he was 100% sure that I would get a new 2006 engine. I'll believe it when I see it. We'll ask to see the engine before it's put in the car & the paper work showing it's new. We're lucky that we have 3 good friends that work in the service department. We're all friends from knowing each other from drag racing, & engine building . So I know that they will let us inspect the engine. But either way, it won't be a great selling point when I get rid of the car. Which I plan to do the day I get it back from the dealer. Now, to figure out what to trade it in for. Suggestions anyone ??

Well, just for an update I thought I'd let you all know that I figured out my irratic idle problem. I opened to hood in an attempt to clean the MAF, which I did, but what I noticed first was that Mazda never screwed the MAF in all of the way and the entire unit was wobbling out of place, that would be enough to throw the idle off. I cleaned the MAF, let it dry and screwed it back in, correctly. I now have no idle issue anymore!

Now let's see how long the engine lasts!

Same thing happend to me when they swapped in my second engine. looks like they did screw it in but stripped the screw holes AND broke the plastic shield that protects the bulb. God only know where that went in the engine.

My second one has marbles in the 4.5-6 k range. The Az summers just make it worse.

Engine #4................well since Mazda issued an official recall for the engine they'll do it all over again. Hopefully this one sticks. It'll be a couple of weeks and then I'm back in my 8. Finallly.
