Well Sept last year I got my engine replaced (04 Auto). Sadly almost a year and 10,000 miles later I had to take it in again, and they are doing another engine swap.

Well, put me in the new engine x3 and counting club. I have a 04 GT 6 speed with 46,000 miles on the original motor. I also experienced the loss of power (one week after mailing my last payment.). I new what that problem meant thanks to the great information gained from 5 years of reading this site daily. I took my car in got the decarb, test, and then bad news. It took 14 days for them then to tell me that the motor sent was also bad, compression on the first replacement was lower than my original motor. The second motor came in 10 days later with the same story, bad reman. So now I am waiting for my third reman. to come in. I am sad to say that I am quickly losing faith in mazda quality control. I have had only love for my car until now, but I feel physically ill over all this not to mention the almost 1,000 dollars I will have in a rental by the time this is over.

call mazda, they may cover the rental cost, it's not your fault you're waiting for so long and that the reman engines are bad! or at least see if the dealer can ask the regional manager or something

 

Thanks Astral, I have talked with the service mgr. and he said that he would try to help with the rental but I am not getting my hopes up.

 

I know how you feel. Now I looked around for some great bargains to rent an economic car for at least a week and Hertz said, "Well pay me $284" mind you I still have to put gas in it again. I couldn't stop laughing and walked away!

 

Well I got my new engine on Friday 08-08-08 and it turns out that the new engine was dead also. Another thing that I did not know is that when the new engine arrives at the dealership it comes with a flywheel on it. The reason I know this is that they are charging me $85 to transfer my mazdaspeed flywheel from my original engine to my new one. Lets just hope that they don't try to charge me for transferring it from the dead engine #2 to hopefully working engine #3.

 

Now I just got my car back today! I checked my baby and lifted lifted the hood to look at my new engine. Next I was curious to find what new battery the gave me then I find that the same old battery I purchased was still in the car. Now I'm a little angry at this because I paid all my parts upfront before the engine came in.

Now I'm wondering if they even gave my car new coils, spark plugs and wires as well!

 

I'm bringing this car to my other guy at third party rotory shop to see if this job is really genuine!!!

 

That's crap. Why would a new shortblock come with a flywheel?? They're jacking you. Ask them to show you the engine with the flywheel on it.

 

the reman short block does come with a new flywheel.

anyone need one??? got spare. new flywheel, old flywheel. here a flywheel there a flywheel.

?? hm. That seems to be wasteful. My dealer charged me for replacing the friction ring on my RB flywheel but not for swapping it.

 

i can go get a photo..

but you should have got the new flywheel back when they installed the rb flywheel..

and how many miles on the friction ring? i would doubt that you would be in the replacement time.

I believe you. I'm just questioning the wisdom of it. I agree If it had a flywheel I should have gotten it. Not that I need it. I had about 55K miles on the friction ring. It didn't need it but I had them do it and the clutch anyway since the motor was out. I still have them both in my garage in case I ever need to replace my clutch again.

reman engines are actually actually long blocks, with a new oil pan, oil level sensor, reman flywheel (all resurfaced and ready to go) as well as a new water pump. the tech only really needs to move the clutch over. At least, that was the case when I just had my engine replaced and I've read others' posts that said the reman already had a flywheel.

the motor that was put in my car had a flywheel. oil pan and that is about it. they changed everything else out..

Ok that's not good what your saying is this new engine that I got recently comes with a new flywheel? I just bought a streetlite flywheel for my car 5 months ago. Freakin crap I got to call my mazda dealer and ask them if they still have my actual flywheel in the shop.

 

I doubt they still have it, but give it a shot. Technically, it's yours since it came w/ the reman.

So this means that if you are getting a new engine, you can give them a replacement clutch (new) and get a free clutch install, since they have to pull the old clutch off the old engine and put it on the new engine. Instead, they can just take the new one out of the box and put that on. You already have a resurfaced flywheel. So that's a new clutch for about $300-400 (cost of parts).

 

I stopped by the Hempstead Mazda Shop this morning. I couldn't find the assistant manager concerning my engine replacement. I found out he was in the warehouse. So I call him up on the cell phone and he mentioned to me that that supposedly the stock flywheel is on the old cracked engine. Still I have this gut feeling that he is lying however I'll find out once I put my new engine mounts from mazport.net this month.

 

I have put about 2000 miles on my new engine now, and it does'nt seem any difference in performance or idle quality. I also had them install a low mileage clutch disc and PP. They also told me that the new engine has a new flywheel on it so I wouldn't have to reuse mine.

I also am getting a check engine light for the Intake Manifold tuning valve. The tech says that he took the liberty to clean out the intake system while it was off, and that some of the un-seated gunk must be making the valve stick. I guess i'll have to pull the manifold off and clean it out myself now. Good thing i'm an auto technician myself HUH?


I may to stop by my friends house and use his Mazda compression tester then take it back up to the dealer to see what they tell me.

 

^^Sounds like they are feeding you a line. I would definitely check it yourself and see whatelse they left in there.

 

New member of the club. Old engine had 23k miles.

 

some racing teams are reporting side housing warpage when temps are allowed to continue at 225F!!! Not enough to blow it right away , but enough to cause decreased rotor seal life!!!
That surprised the hell out of me. I thought it would be in the 235-240 range.

sad as hell this all started in 2005 and here in 2008n going into 2009 the problem just hit me dead in the head damit!car in the shop for new motor after recall!!
