There's so many things that could go wrong with a system lean code, I'd recommend you check for vacuum leaks, could possibly be that you need to change your o2 sensors. Do you have a cai in or are you using your stock airbox?

Double check that all the hoses are attached to your intake, apparently for me the issue was a vacuum hose on the bottom fell off, I still can't find what hose it was that they so called plugged back in, let me take a look and try and find it and I'll send a pic. Just do a quick check for vacuum leaks and while your car is on just tap on the maf wires and such and see if symptoms improve then it might be a faulty maf

Alright I just did my 3rd drive cycle and the car ran great. No rough idle, car held the idle at 1k RPM, and great acceleration from 2k-8k.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Same symptom

Soooo I was having the same exact symptoms as you. Mine would let me start it when cold but turned off after a few minutes, then after it would start really weak and shut off. Aside from it also running rough and sounding like a tractor trailer with white smoke coming from it. After all of the negative blog posts and all I assumed that it actually was the engine needing to be rebuilt. (168000 miles mind you).
I broke down and took him to the Mazda dealor and after about 4 hours they swapped out the coils and now it's running just fine. I didn't think it was coils cause I recently had them replaced, hind sight though I think the mechanic I used cheaper out.
Hope this info helps

If you still have a cat, it would be a good idea to drop it and inspect it.
If it was running that bad, there's a good chance it was damaged.
Edit*
You don't have to bring it to a dealer, any local muffler shop can probably do it cheaper.

Good suggestion. I think after all that it won't be a bad idea.

Help needed on my 06 6MT RX8

Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated to get me 8 fixed

So it takes a while to turn on and has a really rough idle when it does turn on. I back fires a lot and shuts down if I don't keep gassing it a little.
It sounds like a tractor is under the hood and I can't find the problem I did however scan it and got three codes. P0302 for rotor 2 misfire. P0031 Ho2s Heater Control Circuit. P2070 Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) valve stuck open bank 1a.
I also think it could be a problem with the fuel pump but I need help on where to begin because I don't want to waste time and money on things that aren't going to fix anything. Any pointers?

*Read OP, not the thread*.

By the sound of it, it sounds like a 1 cylinder. I've once disconnected the Leading Coil and it gave a similar effect. Check if all your spark plugs are firing. Flashing CEL almost always is a misfire. A coil not firing is also a misfire.

Take off your airfilter and everything, disconnect the cables from the coils but leave them still touching the inside. Get yourself some insulated pliers and start the car. Lift the cables up one by one with the insulated pliers so you don't shock yourself (it won't kill you, just give you a strong spanking).

Test this, and come back with results. You don't want to spend money on stuff that's already working. If one coil is dead, just replace one for the time being. Or all 4 if you have the cash at hand right now.

My issue turned out to be the autozone MAF sensor. I purchased a Denso MAF sensor and the car runs great and idles at any temp and is silky smooth.

Hello guys.
Super new to the forum but really need help. So I just purchased an Rx8 with 108,000 miles on it. Had it a week and It was working fine but recently I started having some issues. When I turn it on it turns on fine and constant but as soon as It reaches normal temp it starts to rev up and dies. If I run it constantly it works perfectly but if it's not in constant acceleration it shuts down. So I changed spark plugs which were in terrible shape also changed the plug wires and air filter and also put some sea foam to clean the gas injectors. After all of this the car now stays on even on normal tempeture but will start to have problems again right after I hit around 50mph but runs just fine during the first 4 shifts. Any suggestions at this point? Thanks

You changed the plugs and wires, but did you change the coils? I'd try that first. Clean your MAF sensor too while you're at it.

Having a similar issue... Been browsing this thread for years now and just finally made an account to ask some questions....

First off.. Thanks much to all of you... Normally i get a problem... Search the thread and find the same symptoms someone else had and try that fix and boom im good... But this one is kinda weird....

Ok so i have an 04 6port manual.

Mods (have alot so only listing engine/performances mods)

Bhr coils
Aem Cai
Bhr midpipe
Racing beat header
Racing beat cat back

Got the 04 recently pretty cheap and it wasnt running...
My 05 (daily) was an auto and all the mods from it was taken of an placed on the none running 6 port manual 04 that now has the problems.

Parted the auto and the manual got all its aftermarket goodies..

Went and tried to turn it over just for giggles and the bugger started.. First thing i did was a compression test while it was running.... 8.4 front roter 8.1 rear (bar) has to cels

P0301 and p2004... At first it had some other cels and i tended to those and now its as if everytime i fix a cel something else pops up the same day....

Symptoms... Doesnt idle... Stalls at stop

When started cold it warms up and holds its idle . left it running for and hour (supernatural episode) thinking it needs to learn fuel trips. And it idled fine but the moment i tap the gas and when it should catch its idle it doesnt it just stalls.

No power at all... Doesnt go over 72 mph... No hi end power what so ever

Things ive done

Replaced bhr coils with oem and pulled on plug at a time and checked for spark(one wire from one coil while running) checked all 4 even though the misfire is in rotor one

Placed a new throlle body ( had a tb code as well) new wires and plugs... Also vfad delete (yes properly capped) ive also decarbed it. Checked for vacuum leaks and found none but i know what an 8 sounds like under the hood (own 3) and this has a weird unrememberable (prob not a word) noise that i dont really recall. Seems its coming from under or behind the alternator(brand new as well)

All symptoms are

No power
P0301
P2004
Powersteering works ever few starts... As in if i start the car and and doesnt work i can start the car 4 more times and it will work ever 4th-7th start up just fine (power steering module is new and connectors under res cleaned)
The moment i hit 5500 rpms cruising 5th on the eway my dash christmas trees( all lights comes on, reason i got a new alternator because i thought the pcm failed in the old one. Plus the old one has a stiff spot)

Any suggestion at this point is welcomed

Replacing the apv motor in the morning and see what new symptom i get after that

P0301

that is a missfire code right, swap coils and see if that changes anything. change that rotors leading and trailing ignition coils and see if that makes any difference. rotor 1 missfire code.

Keep getting misfire issues, and I got the freeze frame data, was hoping someone could decipher it. Its a race car with no cats, new plugs wires, BHR coils, new aftermarket MAF, have a Denso on the way. Idles fine when cold, unless you push the clutch in. It drives jerky but I was chalking that up to the flywheel. I've reset the NVRAM cleaned the crank angle sensor. Running premix and OMP. The race is in like 3 days, kinda need a hail mary.
