RX8 hissing sound when accelerating
Everytime i let go of the gas and accelerate. I hear a metal hissing sound.
Sounds like a cling cling cling noise. But it's really not noticable. It's just annoying to hear that sound everytime i lightly acclerate. The sound can't be heard due to engine noise at higher RPM but you can barely still hear it. If you have good hearing! I took my vehicle to the dealership and the S.A. advised me to come back when their best rotary guy comes back next week. Possibly leave my car for inspection and provide me with a rental.
I thought it was my intake. So i tried to adjust my intake box to see if it was that. Every since i got the oil change, It's been acting weird. Anyone know why it's causing this noise? If not, I guess i'll have to wait until next week.

Bummed, but bring on OU!
does it happen at all RPMs or just specific ones? I've heard of heat shield rattle, intake valve opening noise... Any other symptoms, or just the noise? Hard to diagnose noises on the internet .

It's very noticable around 50-60mph. you can hear it clearly around 2-3RPM. When lightly accelerated. I'll keep everyone posted on what the problem is when i find out what the symptom is.

I just dropped in the K&N filter in last night. Car feels alot stronger and smoother. HP gain is not noticeable. Filed it up with a full tank to see if i can get additional mileage. However, the whistling metal cling sound is still present. Will have to wait until this saturday for checkup.

The "sucking/hiss/whistle" sound comes from your intake as you accelerate and the engine sucks in air. I have in the past used aftermarket intakes on various cars and depending on the design and if the intake is well tuned...a hissing/whistle sound will become more pronounced.
The stock airbox I have found makes the "suck/whistle" by default which tells me that its fairly well tuned from the factory. My suspicions are well validated as replacing the stock airbox for an aftermarket one does nearly nothing with very little HP gain. Replacing the paper filter w/ a green or K&N only makes the sound increase in volume because your able to flow a bit more air therefore making it more efficient.
Sit back and enjoy the suck...relish in the sucking...its good for you...haa haa...sorry I couldnt help it...
I have also heard a more pronounced tinny noise after 4k rpm and have attributed it to some sort of secondary runner or valve opening up. It became much more pronounced after adding a race pipe and deleting the cat. I am not sure on that one yet...but because its behavior appears to be normal, and I notice an increase in power after 4k I am almost sure its by design. I'll eventually hunt it down as my curiosity always gets the best of me.
THERM8: Is that the intake valve noise your talking aboot?
cheers...

Got back from the dealership and test drove with one of the technicians. We must of drove for 8 miles. He was trying to figure out where it was coming from and was stumped. S.A. told me that they can call tech line to find out if it's a known issue to resolve the conflict. He advised me to leave the car for the diagnosis and provide me with a rental. S.A. called the S.M. for a rental and told the S.A. to inform me that if they can't find the problem, I would have to pay for the rental charge.
Anyways, to keep it short. I decided to not leave the car there and purchase the K&N Typhoon Ver. 2 from
http://performance.speedycarparts.co...5&brandid=3387
Had to pay tax cus it's shipped from California but they're located in NJ i believe. 251.55 shipped.. Not bad about the same price as Ebay but with faster shipping cus it's shipped from same state.. Anyways, I'll get the intake and hopefully the sound goes away......... Now to send the K&N Air filter I bought back to the store... shiz.. I decided to go with the short ram cus i had the MS CAI and didn't like it and put it back to stockers.. Hopefully I'll like the K&N intake... If i still hear the sound.. I'll probably mask it with a catback later.. or maybe the sound will go away..

I guess i'm not alone and the sound is normal!? Sad to say.. Here's a previous post a while back.. guess it wasn't resolved or it's occuring to everyone who haven't added much performance mods to mask the noise..

Just installed the K&N Typhoon V.2 and sounds like a beast. Took me about an hour. Took my time.. It wasn't as bad as installing the MS CAI before!!!.. taking out the bumper and ****!.. It's 2X louder than the MS CAI and much more powerful. If your thinking about getting the MS CAI, forget it. Get the Typhoon V2. It owns. The sound is deeeeeep. It might be too loud for some... I still hear the hissing sound by the way..., but not as much with the Intake. I hear it less due to revvin it from time to time. It's hardly noticable now.. The sound should be eliminated once i put on a catback exhaust. Still unsure If I want to go to the TurboXS setup with midpipe and exhaust.. Money is an issue... I'll probably end up looking for something used... I'm happy with the K&N Typhoon V 2, much much better in sound and more power than the MS CAI no doubt..
