RX-8 and Greddy turbo dissapointment

Here is my issue:

I've had the Greddy turbo kit ver.2 on my car for a little over 2 months now but it seems like its boosted for nothing. There is only a little kick @ 4k then it slugs @ 7k through every gear. For some reason It just won't hold the boost. I took my car to my friend's shop to check for vaccum leaks but there were none. I also rechecked all the piping and couplings see if it was secured and it was. SO what the hell is wrong??? I cant find any issue like this on here so decided to make a thread about this. Is it because the way the ultimate is tuned??? I really dont know. All I want to do is put on this turbo smoke a couple of 350z's, SRT-4's and Evo's and I would be happy but last night proved that even against my friend's all stock 350z I lost 3 car lenths from dead stop and rolling. This is a big dissapointment to me and what the car is capable of and if this goes on any longer and I can't find one damn problem Im seriously selling this car and getting something that will be more satisfiying.

AFR readings? Engine Logs? Stock Tune? Detailed boost levels for the run up through the RPM?

Come on man - throw us a bone!

yeah, something isn't right. You'll feel a lot more power from 3k onwards. With a huge surge of torque at 4k.

Have you ever had your car tuned? You know it needs to be tuned to make big power.

You do know that the greddy turbo is too small to provide boost all the way up to 9K right?

even untuned, he'd be making 50-60 whp gains... what he describes says otherwise.

AFR readings is a no go still on waiting on my UEGO wideband. Yes I left it at the stock preprogrammed ultimate (never tuned a car in my life). I have a bar type boost gauge and from what my readings are it doesnt even past 0 untill Im in 4th then its kicks in to .5 bar. Its hard to describe how my car is reacting unless you actually test drive it. I live in Maui, Hawaii and theres nobody that can extractly help me with my car because nobody does works on rotaries here. Well it could have been my driving when racing my friend's Z but the lack on the other hand I know thats not me.

mysql101- I've watch most of your videos of your car in action and on the dyno and Im really impressed on how well your car responds wish my car could do the same(I really wish I had the money for the Int-X and tuning session.) I used your videos for many issue that came to me while the installation and running process. Thanks for all the info guy:D

I love my car but the way things are going right now on how it responds is whats a dissapointment and the fact is nobody can help me down here.

Take the ferry to Oahu and hook up with BigO or go to Ron's Performance.

Is the ferry open yet?

If you are not going positive until 4000 RPM - something is wrong.

Worse Case:
Come Feb - I'll be back in HI and if it is not runnig well - we can look at it some more then. Also - Charles Hill is coming out too.

Well the whole enviromental study issue for the superferry is a big problem right now considering it cant dock Kahului harbor yet here on Maui so who knows when this thing is actually going to start running.

Kane- That would be helpful for you guys to come look at my car first hand and see what is that actually problem I would really appreciatie it big time :D

Thanks for the info guy:D by the way Kane I see on youy link to you car's profile in your signature that your running the RS bov did you have any sort of problem with that bov? I use to run a RS but it made my car lag even more then what it is doing now and when I switched it to the Type S the car ran alittle better not a whole lot but enough for me to feel a differences in responds.

I don't have any problems - I would say a syncronic (sp) would be a better choice - but mine dumps air without any spikes.

There is a video around here of my boost gauge spooling up - you can see that there isn't really any lag and the boost doesn't spike hardly at all when you hear the BOV vent. But the only way it would make you lag more is if it was not properly adjusted and were venting early.

Made it more laggy huh? Now I am intruiged - and you're sure no boost leaks right?

Once it spools to .5 Bar; can you hold the boost level?

just a question. Seeing that the kit was made for a totally stock MSP if you modded before with bolt ons would that affect the tune in anyway? For me I would think so but what do you guys think? would it really matter because besides the turbo kit im running a AP underdrive pulley, Greddy alt and water pullies, Racing Beat ultra iginition wires, and a Sun Auto HVS with Sun Auto ground wires. Could this also affect the lag im getting?

it wouldn't matter. the exhaust drives the turbo.

a catless midpipe might effect it slightly, but besides that, it's "stand alone" from your mods

You need a wide band before anyone can even begin to speak to your difficulties.
Really, you shouldn't even be driving the car without one.

Did a test run last night and this is what happened(sorry I couldnt get my friends AFR wideband) I rev the car to 3500 I felt the boost kicked in the @ 4k I felt the surge of TQ that mysql101 was talking about then when hitting 7k the car starts to make a weird noise and the exhaust makes a sputter sound. One of my friends tells me it sounds like predetonation but how can it? I checked the plugs and it smells like fuel with the top being black. Second the car floods especially during noon time hours idk why but it starts fine only morning and afternoon/evening times.

usually it's 5k range that you have to worry about detonation, but if the tune is off, it can happen anywhere...

as MM said, without a wideband, anything we say here is a guess, and an uneducated one at that.
