RX-8 / 4 weeks at the dealer / japan mecanics came to "patch" the problem

While many of us hate the thought of loosing our RX-8 for a moment, my RX-8 (2004 model) was left at the dealer for more than 3 weeks at my local Mazda dealer (montreal, quebec).

Problems ranged from ridiculous floods to my car just dying on me.

I know what many of you think, "not another thread on this subject"... But this time I want to know who lived the same situation.

Mazda Canada have told me that we are more than 20 owners in my region that have lived a similar situation. Who are you?

== Should we just sit here and accept this situation? Isn't time for some compensation? I think yes ! ==

The dealer was so lost, that Mazda Canada sent in Japan mecanics to and I quote "patch the problem" and not really fix it. Apparently they played around with the accelarator pedal, sensors, throttle body, oil, etc.

It appears as though the car seems to have some issues in extreme cold weather conditions, although the Calgary contingent seems to be rather sensitive about this. But there is no denying the number of posters that have come on from the Quebec region stating they have had significant issues with flooding. Hope they are all getting taken care of.

I live in Montreal but I do not drive my RX-8 (built 01/04) much in the winter. I did have a flooding incident. Fortunately I was able to get it going again using the instructions Mazda sent me. Mazda recently also sent me a recall notice to have the PMC updated. This is supposed to address the cold starting issue.

I had an MX-6 before the RX-8 so I have some experience with different Mazda dealers in Montreal. Service generally sucks, but I found Mazda Gabriel better than some of the others.

No, we shouldn't accept this situation. I just had my 8 flood for the second time and am proceeding via the Lemon Law. I love the 8, just find it unacceptable that if the car stalls prior to warm up, that's all folks. Althought he law seem not to protect any car over 18k miles, we'll see. I would like to know also anyone who may want to proceed in attempting to get restitution.

You're not being rude, just need more facts, yes, I know the problems, procedures, etc, that's my point. I was very careful, had alot of snow and didn't drive it, but had went out and warmed car up after not driving for 3 days, no problem, due to snow didn't drive for 3 more and went out to drive it to my daughters, and for what ever reason, when it started up it just died before I could even get the RPM's up. I just can't accept this problem can't be fixed if for whatever reason the 8 dies. I have been speaking to Mazda all week about it. Was at the Philly car show and Mazda there said they have the same problem on the 05.

Guys, trust me... this is not my first "performance car" and certainly not my last. Dont get me wrong, I love my RX-8 I think this is a great car and very fun to drive. I dont want to be seen as a pain is the butt, but I think that when you pay a good amount of money, you should expect good quality.

My main concern is this... When is the next time that problems with starting the car will happen... The next time I am with my kid and its snowing outside or the next time I am with my girlfriend somewhere... This doesnt make any sence to me....

I already sent a registered letter to Mazda Canada with the details of my problems... I dont know if you guys remember what happened when some japon car manufacturers had trubles with false advertising on the number of horse power in cars and they had to pay up to the owners....

But the thing that pisses me off the most is that I read that apparently Mazda Canada has officially out to the press saying that the RX-8 is not a winter car and so should not be driven in winter. If that is the case, I want Mazda Canada to acknowledge the fact that they are totally lost and give us compensation for our troubles...

I sympathize with you for your problems but that has got to be BS.

that really sux about the constant flooding and problems. I bought mine from a small dealer they don't sell many 8's but it's only me and one other girl who haven't flooded them out of those cars. One guy does it constantly and Mazda said no more free anything,he floods again he pays. I guess if you even barley touch the throttle in the cold during or just before start up your at higher risk for flood, according to service guy. I haven't even had a rattle with mine---knock on wood

I hate to hear all of these problems. There is one thing I don't understand: I've never had any issues with this. I start my car in the morning (no matter what the temp) and before it's started good I'm in reverse pulling out of the driveway. I don't get on it or anything, but I don't let it warm up or any of that stuff. My question is "What is the difference in these cars"? Why some cars and not others? I got the M flash right after it came out the first time. I have no CEL and no problems with flooding or dying. There has to be SOMETHING that is consistent with all the people that are having flooding issues!

Slims8 - you live in hot Texas.

Flooding is much more likely to occur in colder climates as the 8 is running a much richer fuel ratio when it first starts up, so the extra fuel is more likely to dilute the oil and cause a lack of compression leading to flooding.

I bet if we looked at flooding vs climate, we'd see more complaints in colder climates.
