Repair advice (rear shock and rear diff)

Hi,
I had a couple of questions regarding some repair work that was recommended for my Mazda RX8 (2006 rx8 6 speed MT, 102000 miles, short block replaced at 78000 miles). The mechanic said that I should get them done before my planned maiden autocross event in july.

The mechanic I went to said that the car’s rear differential pinion seal was leaking and needed replacement. The price quoted was 850 (30 for parts and rest for labour).
Secondly, he mentioned that the rear left shocks were leaking and needed replacement. The labour being askedfor this job was about $450.
I was wondering if that was a tad too high. From what I could gather on the internet, it is a complex job, but not sure if it is complex enough to warrant 830$(pinion seal) or 450$(both rear shocks replaced and alignment done).

I would really appreciate some advice on this.
Thanks
Rahul
