Rear glass rattle/tapping problem....solved, hurray!!
I posted the following thread last week.....
Rear dash rattle/tapping driving me nuts, help please! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Has anyone had a similar problem coming from their rear dash? It sounds almost like something tapping against the glass. When the weather is really hot and the car is outside I don't hear it until the air conditioning cools off the interior a little bit. Now that it's gotten cool, it's gotten louder. I had the car into the dealer in the summer, and they glued the trunk light. I thought it was fixed, but the car had been sitting out in the sun and by the time I was an hour away, it was back. I took it back a second time and let the service manager ride in the back seat. He said that he couldn't isolate the sound, and that he was afraid that by taking the dash apart it would just cause more squeaks and rattles.
I'm just wondering that surely since people replace speakers in the car and that's the only way to do it, it can't cause that much problem to remove the dash. I really think they just don't want to fool with it. Is there something under the dash that can be causing this tapping sound?
All I know is that it is driving me crazy, I can't even enjoy driving the car. Even with the radio up to 12 I hear it through the music, the road doesn't even have to be rough. I've even considered taking the seats out myself, but my husband is afraid to. I've thought about taking it to a detail shop that installs electronics and let someone there do it and pay them. What do you think. Anyone have any ideas?
Well, I couldn't take it any longer. I called the Parts/Service director at my dealership and talked with him on Monday. He told me that I should have had the car fixed the first time and I should bring it back over, that they would find the rattle and fix it. I told him about my fear of causing more problems by taking out the seats, etc. and he said he wasn't worried about it. He said that they were a Porsche and Audi dealer too and that they had had them down to the frames looking for problems. Whatever it was, they could and would find it ....not to worry, bring it back. I told him I had over 12,000 miles on it now....he said no problem. So I did. He gave me a loaner car on Monday. As of yesterday evening, they had taken out the back seats and back rear dash...but the tapping was still there. They took out the glass, and the tapping is gone. (I always thought it was the glass, and there is another thread here somewhere where someone in Australia had the same problem.) He said they were overnighting some trim parts in and would be putting it all back together today. Hopefully I'll have my Shinka back tonight. Hopefully, rattle free.

My cars back guys. No rattle, and perfectly put back together. No scratches on the outside either, and I can't tell it on the inside. Go Moffitt Mazda in Louisiana!
