Really Hot shifter

Hi

I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue.

I been noticing lately that there is an extreme amount heat coming up from my shifter?

My car runs beautify. So im not worried abt it that much. I was just wondering if that is a regular thing for the car?

if anyone has had this before and has a fix for it i would greatly appreciate a reply with the fix you did to eliminate the heat.

Thanks

HA! I opened this hoping to see pics of a good looking shifter

Mine isnt particularly hot... there is a thick rubber boot under the leather that keeps temps down. Maybe yours is wearing? You could always remove the console and have a look...

...or wear driving gloves, you won't feel the heat anymore.

Yeah I'd check to see if you have that hefty rubber boot under there. If I remember correctly there's also some of that material they use on the firewall in the engine bay under there.

I've never noticed heat radiating up from the shifter.

You might check the gearbox oil.

No, I have my console removed right now, and that rubber boot is about it, unless there is something under it... Strangely enough, there is heat insulation around the cup holders and a few other places, but I think its mostly for anti-rattle (except for the cup holders)

+1 for checking gearbox oil

I have insulation between the rubber boot and the shift boot.

^ Hmm. Is it attached to the bottom of the shift boot? I may have missed it if thats the case. If not, this could be one of the little changes between the S1 and S2. You have a black S2, right?

Yea actually the first time i took out my console it was held into the shift boot really snug that I almost dropped it out without noticing. It's not glued in there or anything but could be held up there by whatever folds in your shift boot. And yes a black s2.

Since I already had my console out, I thought I would just take a couple of pictures. Paimon and Alz were right, there is just a bit of insulation in the shift boot. I didn't even notice it until I looked. I took a pic of it (still in the boot)

And this is the thick rubber boot I was talking about.

Both of these serve as heat sheilding.
