Question rattle in the door?

i have noticed with the advent of the cold weather that i have a rattling coming from my driver's side door. it sounds like maybe something in the window track? anyone else have this problem? if so, should i go to mazda to "fix" it?

ps. how much is it for an 05 flip key for an 04?

This is anothe common problem for 04's. First year crap. I have to take mine in a second time to fix the problem. Mazda should take care of it.

Ouch! Not a good deal! Good luck getting it out...or at least getting the smell out.

Anyway, as far as the rattle goes, I have a similar rattle in my passenger door it seems and one from the plastic liner under the wipers outside the car. That one drives me nuts...I'm sure your dealer can track your rattle down somehow, especially since it seems relatively common.

I've got the drivers door rattle. Bugs the crap outta me. I also have a rattle somewhere behind the stereo. If those were gone I'd have no complaints.

Sometimes the dealership can do more damage than good by pulling off your door panels. A multitude of things could end up going wrong or being worse than before (ie. fit to sheet metal, scratched panel or surrounding trim, damaged screw covers, etc.). And you can bet that they won't give you fresh attachment clips, they will reuse them. And I can guarantee you they won't hold as good as when they were first inserted.

Bottom line, unless the rattle is extremely noticeable and indicates a pretty serious issue (ie. loose functional component, etc.), I say deal with it. Turn your radio up, and you won't hear it above 5,000 rpm.

Same here on my new 05.
I am blaming it on the cold.. and I hope I am correct.
I know/hope that is a big part of the problem. How big.. time will tell.
I have added this issue to the list of things you need to accept to own an RX-8.

Don't take this wrong if you have a driver side rattle, but have you emptied your coin holder ?

I mentioned the rattles, and the dealership replaced the window regulators.

I have has the rattles forever. Had it in there twice, they can never seem to hear them when they test it. They re-sealed it the first time, and it worked for a day. Sometimes I want to just crash into a wall, when it starts rattling. F ing annoying. I told them about the regulators, they said no.

yeah i have been hesitant to take it in because it could get worse....someone mentioned the rattle in the back of the stereo system. I have that too! rear speaker of passenger side...something sounds like plastic rattling. its not too bad when the stereos on (the rattles that is), but still...its irritating!!

I finally took mine in cause I couldn't stand the rattling anymore. The mechanic said he had to replace both regulators. The rattles are still there, but not as bad. I have a new rattle though, it sounds like its in the dash in the front right corner.

i have the rattle; driver's side

hello all,

I also have the rattle, and its either coming from the driver door, or the freestyle door. the rattle usually arises when i crank up the stereo. I'm assuming the bass vibrates at such a frequency to rattle something loose. It seems that no one has got a clear cut fix on what is happening?

Agreed, I have many rattles as well, but the most noticeable is in the passenger door. The bass frequencies seem to rattle it, driving does not cause the rattle. When I put pressure on the arm rest on the door it goes away.

with this many people speaking up. I hope Mazda officials are listerning and are looking at a fix for the problem. In most instances dealers would not have a clue as to what the problem is.

someone higher up needs to isolate these problems and notify dealers what to fix when such a problem arises.

I had a rattle in the driver's side A pillar, which they insulated and fixed. Now I have a rattle in the far left side of the dash near the small circular air vent. I will take that in and have it fixed. I think the key is just to keep taking the car back to them until they fix it. I know it can be a pain, but this is a $30,000+ car in some cases, and I'm going to get my money's worth out of the car and the warranty. Plus, I'm sure that ignoring it is what Mazda hopes we do.

I have a rattle too mostly from the driver's side freestyle door although occassionally it comes from the passenger side. The culprit seems to be the rear windows, if I push them together tightly, the rattle seems to stop. The front mirror rattle is what's annoying me the most atm though.

I also have this annoying rattling sound in both of my doors. If I push on the soft cloth in the middle of the doors the rattling tends to stop so im thinking something is hitting another thing and its not suppose to do that. Will mazda in Canada help us out with this problem?

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but just because a bunch of people are complaining about an odd rattle here and there, Mazda is not going to round up the engineering team and start running RX-8's over their test roads in search of these issues.

Buzz, squeaks & rattles (BSRs) are a constant challenge for all carmakers. Show me one car out there that doesn't make an odd noise or rattle at least one time in its life. Unfortunately, there are too many variables out there that can cause these issues that it is virtually impossible to be 100% BSR-free.

Build variation, mis-assembly, contraction/expansion of plastics in varying temperatures can all contribute to occasional rattles. More often than not it is a case of a tight design clearance between components, or an inconsistent wire routing that creates these problems. If you feel comfortable taking off your own trim or door panels, you can probably fix your problem with some foam or felt tape.

But as I stated earlier on in this thread, if don't put it back together properly, you could introduce other issues that could be even more annoying than that small noise that you only hear in the cold over a rough road.
