Radio is on but no sound
Ok I'm just full of issues.
My radio is on but I get no sound at any volum.
I got a 12" in the back with a compassitor and two amps one 350 and on 800. Fuses are all good.
Batterie is good, alt is good, starter is good.
Here is the thing.
When Iam driving and hit 6k rpms in 1st gear it sometimes turns on
Or if I turn the car on or sometimes it comes on.
And sometimes the radio turns off well driving.
Anyone? anything?

Ok I found out whats going on. The compassitor or how ever its spelled holds a charge and when you stall the batterie cuts out. The car needs to run for about 30min to reset the compassitor or recharge it. Thats what the guy at the audio shop told me is going on. He said it happens so the fuses dont blow.
thejew89, do you have a after market system? like a amp or sub? if you are all stock then its the cd/radio going out. It happen to like 4 of my friends with rx8's and my 2 rx8's. Take it to mazda and have them replace it or get one and replace it. Its not that hard. Theres a diy on here. Check it out!

Hi,
Are you saying that you and your buddies each decided to replace the factory deck to fix this issue?
I am having the same problem. I have firmware version 9.53.

yeah my radio is completely stock no speakers stock bose amp andstock head unit. i pulled the head unit out and took it all apart and now the buttons on the right side of the volume **** work and the other side doesnt. i ordered a new head unit so im hoping that it will fix my problems because my radio still works when it wants. (most of the time not)

You paid for a new/used stock head unit? Why wouldn't you use that money towards something aftermarket? The stock head unit doesn't even play mp3's. And how do you know the stock head unit you get won't have the same problem?
Cost for unit on ebay: $100-$130
Cost of XCar Audio Link: $100
Cost of Metra Kit on Ebay: $180
Cost of a Decent Double Din Unit: $400
So for about $400 extra you suddenly have MP3, Navigation etc. and your car is more pimp.

because im not into the stereo thing anymore after what happened to the stereo in my last car. also im happy with how the factory radio sounds. i dont need navigation becasue i have it on my phone. ive also got my sirius receiver mounted in my ashtray so no need for satelite radio. and also the fact that i dont have an extra 500 laying around for my stereo kinda swayed my decision to the 100 for a stock head unit with a 90 day warranty

In general my car stereo works 90% of the time... but sometimes when I start the car it suddenly stops working. It will never start working while I am driving. Only some random time when I start my car a few days later.
The interesting thing is it is all speakers that stop working... not just one. The radio and CD play still... just no sound comes out.
I can't play mp3's with my stereo... and I have the old firmware so i can't use that XCARAudioLink... so... I am thinking I might just buy the metra kit and a double din. (but in saying that... I think I want a BMW 328i convertible in a year or two once the price comes down a bit more... so I may just stick with what I have)

yeah... the issue I/we are having is Intermittent which means there is no way it is a fuse.

The last time my 8 was stock with out any audio upgrades my cd player/radio went out. They dont last that long in the 8. I like the stock look so I did not go after market on the deck.

so now after repalcing the factory head unit with a new to me used head unit it still has the same issue but not as bad. im starting to think its an electrical issue now but ive never messed with my radio other than installing the sirius satelite and fixing my heater controls.
heres the thing i think is weird. when i first crank my car in the morning now the radio doesnt work but after it sits and idles to warm up the radio will be working so im starting to believe its a charging issue now.
could my underdrive pulley cause the alternator to not produce enough power to run the stereo in my car?

Clicking makes it sound like something is shorting to ground. Did you inspect the wires that come into the back of the radio and make sure you didn't rub off some of the insulation or something?
Also since the problem is with both decks I would just go back to the original head unit to eliminate a variable you entered into the mix as having a seperate unrelated problem on top of what you were already trying to diagnose.
On your previous head unit while it is out of the car I would also remove the face plate and reattach it. Sometimes when you are removing the headunit from the car it gets slightly disconnected.

Your problem isn't with the center dash speaker but if you want to rip apart the top half of the center dash so be it. It is the one that is going to click because it is the closest to the stereo and offers the fastest and easiest route to ground. If something is shorting to the ground it would also be the only speaker to click because the others have an amp between point A and point B.

OK well keep on it and let us know if you can figure it out.
I read the related threads attached to this one and found one guy who had the same problem... and it sounds like he replaced his head unit at the dealer and that fixed everything... but the dealer wanted to replace the amp....
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/radio-problems-sound-cuts-out-94892/
It wasn't clear to me whether the dealer replaced his head unit and amp... or just his head unit.
-----------------
"actually, i had a rather similar problem... 2004 5 spd manual
had my car in the garage for winter (too snowy here to drive an 8) and when i got it out in spring, i noticed that my audio was silent, yet the display was the radio station.
i tried turning the volume up, with no sucess, pressed the mute button to no avail, even reconected the batery was useless. everything worked fine, cd player, radio, all was smooth, but i had no sound at all. at later time i noticed that every several seconds an extremely faint little "pop" sound was heard in the dashboard, very rithmical, like water dripping, but it was electical for certain.
had nothing to do with rpms or engine runing or not.
eventually i brought it to the dealer, and they said very professionally.."hmm.. we'll change the amplifier for you"
i didn't agree, since i was almost certain the poping sound was pointing to something going on "up front" so i demanded the full radio and all that was there to be changed. so they stripped the showroom 8 and swapped it to show me that was not the issue, and what do you know? everything was fine! so i got to keep it.
amplifier.. peh.. :P
see if there is anything close to what i described, and if so, you may want to have a run at the dealer.
there is, however, another issue i had with both the old and the new radio... the preset radio posts on numbers 4(especially) and 5 have an odd behaviour. they run fine, then suddenly they stop and it sais "searching...". if i wait, after a while, it returns to normal. if i change to another post and imediately back, it returns to normal as well. hell if i know what it's about. "

ive got a late shift at work tomorrow so once i fix my girlfriends window on her truck im gonna strip the interior out of my car and start tracing wires and checking all the speakers and the amp. im so glad taking cars apart comes easy to me.
if it is a speaker shorting out or the amp if i disconnect it would the rest of the speakers start playing music again or would the radio still play no sound. if i remember right when i had my old blazer before the 8 when one of my speakers in the system shorted, when i disconnected it the rest of the speakers started playing music again. would that work with the stock bose stereo in our car as well?

Also if your battery is not making enought cold cranking amps or putting out enought amps well the car is on then the alternator will not put out enought and your head lights will be dim ect.
Check out checker or autozone. They can check your battery alternator and starter for free. All you have to do is pop the hood and start the car.

No. Have your alternator checked and upgrade your battery. Also check your fuses by the clutch. The reason I say check your fuses; I had a old aftermarket amp and on its way out the door it was blowing fuses left and right. I replaced it and no more blowing fuses. Also when my fuses where bad my radio would turn on but when my car warmed up it would turn off. So checkem out.

Hi - I was the person who's stereo was working 90% of the time. I haven't had any issues in several months. I have no idea what it is/was yet.
