Power steering failure after battery disconnect

Power steering failure after battery disconnect
Update: cleaned all the connections with maf cleaner (it was all I had) and things seem better. Still get an occasional steering shudder but it helped. I assume the battery disconnect was a coincidence.
I apologize if this had been covered but I did search and couldn't find a definite answer. I'm working on a RX-8 for a friend. He had an AT 4 port manifold installed and was getting a Cel for the ssv due to that. Last night I disconnected the battery and swapped manifolds. The car runs better and the light stayed off but there is a power steering light and no power steering. I read the forums and followed the advice I saw. I checked the EPS fuse, I turned the wheel lock to lock (which cleared the dsc light) but still no power steering. I'm hoping for an easy solution to give this car back. Thank you.
