Pedal positioning sensor

Hey everyone, I just bought an 04 rx8 about a month ago, and I love it. But about 2 weeks ago I was driving down the highway and the car went into limp mode, and the check engine light came on. I can turn the car off and then on again and most of the time it will come out of limp mode for about 5-20 miles. It's completely random when it decides to go back into limp mode. So the first thing that i did was take it to autozone to have the code read. It turns out it is the pedal pisitioning sensor that's throwing it. I unplugged, and inspected what I think is the sensor, and it all looks good, though I haven't taken my multimeter to it yet. Does anyone know what exactly is going on? Is it just a sensor that went out that just needs to be replaced? I work as an electrical troubleshooter, so I'm pretty handy with a multimeter, but I just need to know what I'm working with. So if anyone can help me out i would appreciate it a ton.

Guess the only way to find out is take a meter to measure it if the code is pointing to it.

Thank you so much for those. That's exactly what I needed. Does anyone know if this is a common problem, or how much this sensor runs?

There aren't a commonly fail items. Check the APPS before the TPS according to the service manual.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/help-accelerator-pedal-position-sensor-p2138-164781/

The TPS is built into the Throttle body if im not mistaken and the whole thing is 600+ bucks.
