P0301 & P2096 CEL on

P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P2096 Target A/F feedback system too lean ON 2 Fuel system

This is my gf's RX8. Its a 2004 and it floods a lot. I think it may have around 65-70k miles on it and she has had to roll-start it on several occasions due to engine flooding after not letting it run long enough after first starting it after its sat for a while.

I had wanted to try the "pull the fuel pump fuse, gas pedal to the floor and crank till it starts while having a 12v battery cable hookup in the loop" last night, but no one wanted to wait for that and they just wanted to go push it down the road till it started. The push method works, but to me is dangerous and tedious.

Anyway this car has the original coils, some plugs replaced due to previous troubles, I think original wires.

Oddly enough my gf says the CEL turns off when she fills up to a full tank of gas, but comes back on after she burns some fuel every tank. Fuel pump? Fuel pressure issue?

We just went through a hard freeze the past couple of days too and I know age and cold makes these things flood more. Would seafoaming the fuel, oil and intake help the flooding happen less?

I cleared the codes so she can drive it tomorrow and see if they come back.

Hope ya'll can help. Mostly I'm interested to hear what the fix was for people who've had the same trouble codes. Thanks.

Change plugs/coils. Those are usually first to cause problems.
Also, clean the MAF. Easy to do. DYI here
Pull starting shouldn't really be dangerous if done properly ;)
Hope this helps!

Can the car be pulled without damaging the front bumper? So far we've been pushing it with another car and some "buffer pillows" (lol) between the two.

So people have resolved these codes with a clean of the MAF and IAT?

I figured plugs and coils should be changed with this mileage. I have to figure out which ones have and haven't been done, cause I think when she had it at the shop before they only did a couple.

I haven't had to pull start this car (I don't let it flood :P) But, check underneath for a spot to secure a tow-line. I know my RX7's had one...

No, it won't help the codes, but it will help with idling issues and gas mileage

If you're going to change them, change all of them. You should be able to search around and find some cheap ones.

Also, read this thread. More info here that I forgot to mention
