Right now I'm lobbying them to do the Mazmart waterpump. I own one already just want to hear what they say about it. Should know something tomorrow.

For those of you who do not know the difference between Mazmart and Stock here is a pic.
I hope Mysql doesn't mind me posting his pic. Thanks J. :)

We only know that taking the hood off didn't improve the situation.

I said think, not "know". But very well take off the front bumper and drive around without it see if it helps, you'll need to do it anyway if you plan on taking me up on the idea of using ice packs to see if its the fault of the oil cooler.

DISCLAIMER remove the front wheelwell plastics and bumper support if your actually go driving around without a bumper, TRUST ME on this one.

I say keep pushing them to add a 2nd oil cooler

I already have two oil coolers but removed the trans cooler when I added the radiator. I'm running out of free area for cooling mods.

Jedi54 06-22-2008 06:43 PM

we'll just throw some dry ice in there for ya phil. ;)

olddragger 06-22-2008 07:54 PM

and the 2009 STILL has only one oil cooler!
Yall are right Mazda needs to step up here.
feel for yall Bro--any way i can help i will be glad too.

Are you sure, OD? If that's true, Mazda really needs to open and use an automotive proving ground in this hot desert area (Phoenix, Las Vegas, Yuma, Death Valley :) ) like most other auto makers have.

So far I've only monitored oil temps because I thought the water cooling side of things was pretty well taken care of by the OEM design, but maybe I made an erroneous assumption :squint:

But on the other hand one of my first mods was an aux auto trans cooler, so I could be OK with water temps. Sigh - I see another mod coming, as in a water temp gauge.

I also think Easy should be monitoring oil temps - even with two oil coolers equipped with 120 mm muffin fans pulling 80 cfm, I typically see 230 to 240 F with ambient temps between 110 & 115 in city traffic and about 5% humidity. That is measured at the RB Type II adapter under the oil filter where the oil enters the engine after the oil coolers. Racing Beat says no more than 205 F or bad things will happen to your motor and I've always wondered how accurate or critical that really is.

They do test in Yuma and Ford has a proving grounds just northwest of Phoenix.
They sold the old proving grounds near Lake Havasu where they tested the RX-8 to Chrysler.

Well, I would think that testing here should've done the trick as far as demonstrating the need for more heat rejection capacity. I wonder what the heck happened - cost cutting and/or just Barely Adequate Design (B.A.D.)?

I don't want to slam Mazda since it is my favorite car company, but the hassles that Easy has gone through seem to be unreasonable.

I ordered the Mazsport cooling fan control kit this weekend, hoping to avoid any overheating issues myself.

What is Mazda thinking ...

1 Oil cooler ... I dont know man ...

Care to come to my dealership and discuss what is going on with your car? PM me.

Saw it with my own eyes. 2009 a/t has one oil cooler.
For reference-- Speedsource backs off if the coolant or oil gets to 235F. Of course there "load" facter is a little higher!

how's the weather out there today?

nycgps 06-23-2008 01:41 PM

79 F
65% Humidity
Coolant is about 45/55 (coolant/water)
Ran not so hard, Water Temp - 94-106 Celsius - Sucks :(

MazdaManiac 06-23-2008 01:46 PM

109°F, 6%.
Water temp 195° - 225°.

Anyone considering moving the AC condenser? That would seem to kill 2 birds with one stone -- improve AC performance and eliminate the big heat load and obstruction that sits in front of the radiator when you can least afford it.

Perhaps some underbody mod?

I've thought about laying it out flat across the under tray or behind the rad in a position like the airbox tray and battery tray.
Both would significantly impact the A/C operation, however.

At this point, I'm thinking Bugatti Veyron and 10 radiators.
Well, maybe not 10, but at least one auxiliary rad over on the "cool" side of the motor, plumbed through the separator tank return line.

Cool Easy. Getting one of those pumps for my new motor as well. Let me know how it works out, or if you need to sell it I'll help take it off your hands for ya! ;)

That sounds good but ... I just cant find any space to mount it :(

robrecht 06-24-2008 02:20 PM

Easy, how lean are you running with your Access Port? Is that part of your heat equation, has the overheating gotten worse with leaner AFRs?

Jedi54 06-24-2008 02:21 PM

any update from the dealership?

Whaddy'a mean? You could duct it right through the trunk lid. :eyetwitch

But seriously it might be a nice solution if some space could be found.

Hmm... run header pipes to the side and free up the space taken up by the muffler.... :)

Just though of something Easy,

Do you have the RB oil cooler screen installed?
