Well to start this off i have a:

-2005
-63,000 miles
-premixing started at 55,000 miles

mods

-Cobb
-Ms CAI
-Mazsport midpipe
-greddy catback
-Sr power pulleys
-sr flywheel
-BHr ignition (but currently have stock installed)

anyways i made a trip from chiccago to texas this weekend.. car ran flawless
I averaged 310 miles to a full tank of gas no overr heating water temop was around 194-198/199 the entire trip in 80 degree weather..

soo i get into town and its 100 degrees nothing below 97 degrees car has been up north for about 7 months..
after a couple of drives.. my oil light comes on and stays on temporarily... and then shiuts off it comes on occasionally.. and i checked my water temp on the cobb at it reaches as high was 236 with stop and go traffic..

could it be a faulty sensor??? bad coolant??? bad thermostat?? water pump going out???
also when i drive it very conservatively (slow grandma slow) water temp ranges from 216-219

but i mean the car runs strong.. and gets gread gas mileage.. i get about 186 abusing it and 225 driving it slower in the city. but the high water temperatures worry me..

any insight from you all would be greatly appreciated.

 

If you oil light is coming on check your oil, not you water temp

 

I did.. always check the oil.. its where it needs to be on that part.

 

The temps are normal. The slower you go the hotter your car will get since there is less air flow.

Well if you brought it from a cooler climate area (Chi town) to hot *** Texas, you may need to swap your coolant. There is a good chance you have 50/50 glycol, right? That's way too high for that kind of heat.

I drive my car in 110 degrees with the A/C on and I have an intercooler blocking everything, I don't get above 215 degrees unless I go into boost or get caught in traffic.

 

last year i got the car coolant flushed.. and it was done here in texas.. so its mixed for these conditons..

 

238 f is nuts.

 

the cobb read 238 but only flickered and went back down to 236 =[

 

I had my licence plate tied to my mesh on my ms front bumper.. could this cause it to heat up??? less air restriction?? i removed it today to try it out and see what happens

 

Yes, remove any obstructions from the path to your coolers and radiator. Make sure things are sealed up well, including your undercover being on and in proper shape. Make sure you have a proper cap and expansion tank. Make sure your fans are working. Make sure your water pump is not leaking and that you are not losing coolant anwhere. Make sure nobody has done an improper modification to or removed your thermostat. Make sure there's no air pockets in the system.

ok soo i havent gotten back at you guys.. ok i removed th front licence plate.. and BAM no more heating issues.. the car does not go above 206 F usually around 198-201/206 in 100 degree weather.. i didnt think it would have affected it that much.. lol wonder if all the 8's with the front licence plates in the front are suffering from this but most people dont have a wya to ceck the water temps in hot weathers. I used the cobb

he has the mazda speed bumper, it was blocking dead center on the mesh

 

yeah i had it zip tied in the dead center of the Ms front bumpers mesh. (not so good of idea) yea the car was running to hot my AC stopped working.. and around 4.5 RPm the car kinda felt like it mis fired.. but now its running good as new and not over heating. I felt so bad to my motor.. ive never treated it bad in any way always taken cared of. 64K miles on her now =] will have over 70K miles by august.
