Oil Gauge never moves

Dude! My oil gauge never moves up or down, it stays the same whether I change the oil or not, abuse the car, or drive it like a granny. Shouldn't that needle be moving every once in a while?

Even if it did move, they're dummy gauges; the only time they would go down technically speaking would be if you ran out of almost all oil leaving you screwed before your engine went. Sounds like yours hasn't been functioning for some time. If you want a real time oil gauge I would look into gauge kits to mount in the car. There are DIY threads on this here.

The oil gauge is a pressure gauge. If the system reads more than 5psi of oil pressure it will read normal. It does not move.

Right, pretty much most gauges found in the car's dash are dummy gauges. They removed the oil gauge from the S2. And remember the deal is the same with the water temperature gauge...if that thing moves...it just might be too late

The water temperature doesn't even start moving until about 215 degrees and only then just a little. By the time you notice it isn't in the normal position you are 220+ degrees and well past the saturation point of your cooling system.

The oil pressure gauge is totally useless so I'm not surprised it was removed in the S2.

So it doesn't do anything, it just sits there? Why even put it on the dashboard?

I think if people saw how much it moves will be scared! Lol... I put a aftermarket oil press gauge and that thing moves, even when the one on the dash is allways at the same position

Aesthetics. Plus it gives people a sense of comfort knowing that they are able to "monitor their oil temps" (when in fact they really arent)

It's not an oil temperature gauge, it's a pressure gauge.

No doubt if the gauge showed actual pressure amounts it would just freak people out so it just doesn't move.

Ah my mistake, (sorry, s2 doesn't have it), either way though its purely for aesthetics.

And yea hahaha, imagine a new car owner that doesn't know about oil pressure seeing that thing flutter all about when they are driving around.
