I've had an intermittant CEL. Thought it was gas cap. Thought it was oil. My local shops OBD scanner wont read, though it works on 2 Protege he has.

Weather has been really cold. Had oil changed, new tank of gas, didnt come on again for a few hundred miles...then CEL!!!
Hate to go across town, wait around for nothing.

Someone tell me I am not screwed!!!! Car runs great.

 

The scanner will not work on your car if it is not CAN compliant.

The tester he has is probably analog where as CAN is digital. Do a search for scanners as there are quite a few on the market.
