This will let air through where the ECU does not think air is going through (no big deal), but if enough goes through, a lot less is going through the passages with the firing fuel injectors, and that will screw up the mixture, which the ECU will try to fix based on the O2 sensor, which it cannot, because it expects the SSV to be closed.

Best I got.

Carb cleaner works a lot better than mineral spirits to clean it. And, I do remember that it idled a lot better after I cleaned it, and awful lot better.
Thanks. I did actually look at the SSV a few times and it does appear to be functioning ok.

What about a faulty thermostat? cld that cause idle issue?
The fans were coming on quite a bit on hot days after every drive. would run for a few mins, but she was overdue for a service which i just did and the thermo fans not coming on as much now.
My temp gauge is never high tho.

LPG i hope will solve the legalities.
I had great success about 15yrs ago with a s3 rx7 with s4 13b turbo running on straight LPG. NOW BEFORE u all start hacking on LPG consider this.... Most LPG cars are dual fuel!! How do u tune a car on two types of fuels properly?? umm u can't, this is why u hear complaints etc.

U also need to run different plugs for a proper lpg tune, something most dual fuel people probably don't do or at least not the ones best suited to LPG.

So hopefully that'll quash the debate before it starts, whew!

Oh and LPG has higher octane than petrol.

Q.L.D. Department of motor transport will not allow an engine swap if the intended engine to be used is from a vehicle manufactured before the date of manufacture of the vehicle to be swapped into. Whether it meets emission testing or not. This ruling came into effect around 1985. Yes , I realise Q.L.D. doesnt have annual motor vehicle inspections and there are illegal ways of getting it registered, but, if by chance you have an accident, forget about insurance covering you, which means you are liable for all injuries and damages.

Yes but u are forgetting one thing.....motor accidents won't be able to catch me as i'll have 20b power under the hood.

But seriously what's wrong with building an emissions friendly rx8?? with a bit more power in an otherwise underpowered car. Stupid laws. If i get caught i'll turn her into a track car so whatever. i stick my finger to stupid laws in this country.

Its all red tape, you can build a Hot rod today, with a blown BBC and get it registered without a problem, work that one out. Anyways, good luck with your plans.

Yes and from what i read on the qld gov site last night, even aftermarket ECU's are only allowed if proven to comply with emissions standards. mmmmmm

Anyway, stay tuned for the rx8-20b build in the very near future. Just collecting the final pieces of the puzzle before ripping out the stupid rene motor.

Ummm, gonna eat humble pie now, it WAS the injector wiring-plugs in wrong places. Like one primary injector swapped with one secondary!! Actually I think there was 3 wrong. So someone had put them on wrong on the secondhand engine I bought, then later when I swapped the loom (because of idle problem) I copied the same plug formation as was on there.... Error. It's running beautifully now. Happy driver here

So to EVERYONE that said "check the injectors" thank u.

I'll make you feel better. That low mileage problem I had?! Turns out that when I replaced my spark plugs the mechanic made a big mistake.....he didn't put 3 of the spark plugs all the way in! sorry for annoying you guys so much.
So. Lesson learned. Just replace my own damn spark plugs. My fuel output was at 80% at idle. The weirder thing was I didn't feel any power loss.

Congrats of finding the issue.

You may get away with having a 20B as long as you keep the car. If you want to sell then you will have issues.

My car is supercharged for 2 years, got pulled over by the RTA on a random check and they looked at the tyres and let me go. So most law enforcement are clueless about our car and will not pick the engine change.

Good luck with the swap.

Silly me I shoulda swapped out the 20b housings with 13b ones during the rebuild, then they'd never work it out but my 20b ones were perfect condition so woulda been a shame. C block warranty motor yeehaw
