New TSB for the Broken Sun Visor

i put it in the TSB/Recall thread https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...17#post1740817

seems to be a new new part number. should help a few people out. 42 months on my original visors. i feel left out:(

Clavius 02-15-2007 08:58 PM

Oh damn nice.. had mine replaced shortly after buying the car. Nice to know if it happens again this new one will never be a issue. Now what about them tail lights lol

JeRKy 8 Owner 02-15-2007 09:16 PM

How about a new pair of sunvisors that don't have those useless holes in them?

MazdaManiac 02-15-2007 09:28 PM

I like the holes.
Makes it easier to see a stop light when the visor is down.

Nice, thanks for posting that zoom44. My visors haven't broken either (a mere 18 months), but it's nice to know there's an improved part available if I *do* have trouble with them.

zoom44 02-16-2007 12:37 PM

had my left taillight replaced for the water inside yesterday- had the right one done 6months ago. just take it in and get it swapped.

Jedi54 02-16-2007 12:50 PM

hopefully people will SEARCH!!!! (and find this thread)

I'm having WAAAY too much fun today....

Razz1 02-16-2007 09:55 PM

I like the holes in the visor too!

Yeah. Makes it easier to see the sun, too.

+1 for sticky felt from walmart

JeRKy 8 Owner 02-17-2007 11:10 AM

Don't get me wrong, I like holes...just not on a goddamn sun visor.

New Yorker 02-17-2007 11:43 AM

I love the holes! Finally I can see the red light change even when the sun's right in front of me. I find that I can always block out the sun—even with the holes—by adjusting the angle of the visor.

wow,

never needed visors or tailights... zoom thanks for the update....

pdxhak 02-17-2007 10:43 PM

I've had both visors swapped but not the taillights. Good to see this has become an official issue with Mazda. Both times mine were swapped out the dealership acted like they never heard of the problem. However I noticed the other day a very small amount of moisture on the left taillight so maybe sometime in the future.

*Added to the list of stuff I need to tell my dealership next week*

the stig 01-25-2008 12:15 PM

my sun visor is broken, and dealer quote me to be $160 dollar to replace it. any one know where to buy one for a cheaper price?

MazdaManiac 01-25-2008 12:17 PM

Buy the $160 one. Any used visors you buy will be the old version which will break again.

the stig 01-25-2008 12:21 PM

so i should just get it replace from the dealer?...sigh thats ALOT money for a sunvisor!! lol

Smileynh 01-25-2008 01:46 PM

Sun Visor number 3 today(broke 2 on driver side so far). I commute into the sun for some part of every morning.

Also a new set of Tail lights :P Both had water in them. 30k miles.

I was dragging my feet on the lights but the visor NEEDS to be replaced when it breaks. You might want to keep a philps screwdriver in the glove box. When it breaks it's painful. It totally blocks your vision. Just remove the 2 screws and snap the clip on the wire to remove it.

:) NH

You can just buy the part if you have to. Don't pay anyone to 'work' on replacing it. My 3 year old could do the work.

nycgps 01-25-2008 02:40 PM

Im still using my original SunVisor. Is there a problem with my car? It never break! (or apart like it saids in the TSB)

Napboy 01-25-2008 02:54 PM

Do TSB's apply to vehicles out of warranty? I had my driver side visor replaced a while back, but now the seam is splitting on the passenger side. I asked the last time in the shop and they said no.

Funny, mine's fine, too, after two years of ownership. Is it because the car spends most of its time in a dark garage? Or that I NEVER let it slam back into position when I'm finished using it? Or am I just lucky??

I dont know man. I dont use it that often.

but the problem is that they *suppose* to break by itself even when u dont use it. They spread because of heat I think.

meh, doesnt matter, My car has so much problems cuz it never really gave me much problems !

zoom44 01-25-2008 07:20 PM

im still on my originals

Hmm, Does it ever get below zero degrees F?

Maybe it's a hot cold thing.

Both replaced no problem with dealer.

New tail lights are pretty.

Thanks for posting this info. The driver's side visor on my '06 broke yesterday and the passenger side visor has a crack along the seam. Dealer will be replacing both under warranty.

FWIW, my '06 was manufactured in 1/06, so it's an early '06 car with the faulty visor as mentioned in the TSB.

2k4_8 07-18-2008 04:59 PM

When mine seperated, I used CA glue to hold it together...doubt anything will work better than that...and it was super cheap.

05TiGr8Lady 07-27-2008 04:47 PM

I thought I was going to escape this issue by being gentle with my visors, but alas, my driver side split last night. :( I wonder if they'll swap out both... I don't want to have to go back again for the other side.

Thanks for the info Zoom!

GuyWithRx8 07-27-2008 05:22 PM

Just broke yesterday, it had been left out in the sun all day and then I drove it, reach up to pull it down and immediately it makes weird noise, I remember that other people have had issues with it, but it was too late, broken. Now it hangs down an inch or so and I keep bumping my head on it.

So is this tsb free? someone said they had to pay $160?!

The TSB is only free if your car is still under factory warranty.

Another visor victim

My driver side visor split several months ago. Out of warranty. (I own a 2004 RX-8; 23,000 miles, garage kept at all times.)

Went in yesterday to the dealership. No way they were going to replace it! The service agent didn't even want to look up my information. He started telling me that he and his wife own Mazdas and never have had any trouble with them.

Went to the parts department. Written price quote for a new visor: $139.90!

Went to: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-sun-visor-fix-152315/
Gives great instructions on a diy repair. It seems to work well. I just need to get some super glue to finish off the seal.

I'm really angry with Mazda's cheap plastic crap, and the fact that a TSB has been out so long on this issue with so many people having problems with this. It IS a safety issue. It should be a safety recall.

And like many of you - I hate those freaking little holes. A dark smoked plastic insert would have made a heck of a lot more sense for blocking sun glare, especially when used at the side window.

I deal with sun glare through my driver's side window every morning going to work and every evening on my way home. I went to K-mart yesterday to get a suction cup screen to help with the problem.

Right now, I really hate Mazda!

Time to get a new dealership dude.

I can see where mine is starting to split slightly. I use it regularly, and I'm sure it will eventually fail. but i doubt it will be any time soon.

Richard Paul 09-05-2008 10:30 PM

My pass side visor just will not stay up. I was at the dealer yesterday and they said no TSB on it. $125 or so said they and I think that was just the part. Who knows if I let them install it?

The TSB number on here only cover drivers side?
My car is an '04

The TSB covers both sides Richard.

TSB's do not extend warranty coverage.

Richard Paul 09-06-2008 11:42 PM

Does that mean it is still covered now that I'm out of warrenty?

Such a pain in the ass to go to the dealer and get lied to on top of it.:banghead:

You probably just don't flip your visor up, letting it slap against the roof.

Richard Paul 09-11-2008 02:08 PM

I don't understand, what the hell is a TSB good for if it only works for cars under warrenty? If it's under warrenty I don't need a TSB they just fix it. Armed with the TSB number I was going over to the dealer today but rereading this thread I think I'll make a fool of myself. My car has about 25K on it and I bought it in Feb '05.
Is the TSB just a note to let the dealer know whats coming?
