interesting that for the 05s there is a seperate flash for california cars... maybe the 05s have been leaned out for places outside of the emission **** state of CA?

Question about New TSB: Engine Quit, Oil Level Warning Lamp On

Hi All,

I notice there is a new TSB: http://www.finishlineperformance.com.../01-046-04.htm, entitled "Engine Quit, Oil Level Warning Lamp On."

I haven't had the symptoms but my car is a 2004 so it falls within the applicable range. The TSB says the correction should be made for "customers having any of these concerns."

Should I be concerned? Is this something I should ask to have corrected?

ill let you knwo once i have had a chance to read the tsb. there are several new ones out today and i need a chance to digest them before commenting.

I took my 8 in last week for oil change and was told they updated my car to the new flash they had just recieved. I already had the m flash done about 6 months ago , recieved the letter about a new flash but could not make it in . Glad i did not because that one was pulled fast . So i guess i got the one you guys are talking about. And it was to increase power at low rpm and it makes a HUGE diffrence in my automatic. I would advise getting it done. I had none of the problems you listed they just did it , changed the oil and sent me home free of charge.

The fact that there are separate flashes may mean power goes up for everyone except Cali :o

This may be a dumb question but I'll post anyway. I noticed that the new TSB does apply to my '05 RX8 however I have not experienced any problems at all. Should I wait until I experience any of the symptoms before visiting dealer. Or would it make sense to take it in anyway to be checked before any symptoms begin to occur? My 8 also falls in with many on the forum here for the TSB about the front brake squeal. I have not had any problems with my brakes yet but was thinking the same thing on this TSB also. Taking it in BEFORE I experience any issues. What do you guys think?

no you didnt you got the one that replace the one they pulled because of the bug. and its no different than the M you had it has a slightly different name but they are not supposed to flash if you have the original M flash already. the one i am talking about came out today.

This doesn't sound like a "N" flash to me. But I could be wrong. I would like that new dipstick though.

not the oil dipstick unless you want to buy it. it is the new one in the 2005 RX8 only, they are not going to replace all the 2004 ones because there is nothing really wrong (safety) with the one that is in the 2004.

it looks like the 2004 flash is still the "m" flash nothing really new there. unless you are experienceing any of the problems listed . it may change in the near future where they will reuire reflash on ALL RX8's but as of today, we can only flash the ones with the symptoms noted.

sorry I know this is not the answer you guys wanted.

I have one of the newer 05's in the series. What's the heartburn with the old dipstick? I'll admit the one time I checked it the stick did seem a little flimsy (after I spent forever looking for the lil sucker)

Apparently being "concerned" about the matter in the TSB isn't enough. My service manager told me he wouldn't do anything unless I had a check engine light.

too even furthur annoy us and complicate things and make me work overtime to try to dispell all the rumours- that TSB with the new flashes numbers for seperate areas has already been recinded I.E.- it no longer exists.

01-046/04 - 2004-2005 RX-8 - MIL WITH DTC(S) P2404, P0456, P0420, ENGINE
QUIT, OIL LEVEL WARNING LAMP ON
THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN RESCINDED DUE TO PCM PROGRAMMING CONCERNS

so no this is no N flash its not a flash anymore at all. even if you are having one of the issues listed they wont use these flash files since they cancelled the TSB. i suspect it will disappear from teh Rosenthal site shortly

Thats exactly what happened to me a couple weeks ago reving up to 9k. The dealer did a reflash and replaced the oilpan. Runs great now. No more problem.

Too true, the caveat is "verified customer complaints". Believing that our 8s may perform better is not relevant.
