New Engine @ 2,200 Miles

I am a new member and I wanted to share what happened with my new RX-8 in case other people have the same problems.
At about 800 miles I heard what might sound like marbles in a can at about 5-6000 rpms. I thought it was bad gas because I had just filled up.
After a couple tanks of gas I would seldom hear the (marbles in a can) but at 5-6000 rpms in 4th gear the engine would stutter or miss.

I took the car in to the dealership and they had it about a week. The tech at the dealership could not figure it out but he could duplicate the problem. They called MazdaCorp and the dealership told me that two guys from Japan checked my car out for almost 4 days. They made it sound like they were crawling all over it. The spark plugs were replaced and I guess they tried some other things. There were no codes hard or pending for them to check out.

I got the car back with about 150 extra miles on it and they said they didn't know what the problem was but they were still checking out the diagnostics.
This was on Friday, the next Tuesday I was told I was getting a new engine.

I am about 200 miles into the new engine and so far so good. I have not pushed it very hard because I don't want them to have any reason to blame me if it happens again.

I have to say the dealership did a great job on the install of the new engine. If you didn't know you would not be able to tell anything that major has happened to the car.

Yea, just like anything there is going to be a bad apple somewhere, and you unfortunantly got it by the sound of it. Enjoy the new motor and car, it is awesome.

Nope. I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

I have enjoyed the car. Its a great ride.

I wanted to mention that after they installed the new plugs on the bad engine, the gas mileage got better. From about 16.5 to 18.5 MPG
Maybe that is because I didn't want to drive over 6,000 rpms to avoid the stutter problem and any possible engine damage since they were not sure what the problem was.

With the new engine I got over 19 MPG with the first tank but I am taking it easy since I don't have many miles on the new engine.
