Cool NEW 8! 2 things, are these normal ?

Got my NEW 8 yesterday !

Silver w/ black lthr int.
6 speed w/ appearance & rotary acct. pkg !!!!

Juts a few questions though:

1. There is constantly air coming out of the AC vents even when its turned off ???

and

2. Its almost impossible to get it into reverse, i literally got to throw it and then jam it down as hard as i can into gear ...

Never had a new car before and this is so different from my 13b 1st gen so i wouldnt really know if these things should be goin on

thanks a lot guys

the reverse doesn't sound good..... you know you have to push down the shifting **** then move it to the six position?

1. Never checked for that but maybe it is passive ventilation. Fan is off? Check the owners manual.
2. It is a little difficult to shift into reverse, but it's a matter of getting the technique down. Push down on the lever, push to right and back and the will do it. After you get a few miles on the car consider changing the transmission and differential fluid to a synthetic like Redline or Royal Purple.

thanks yall i had no idea about pushing down on it !

as far as the AC i figured it was passive but it is in the off position sooo
well im taking it to the dealer today to have it detailed [ and to give them the rest of the money =D ] anyway ill ask about the AC

the car already had 5000 miles on it so they gave me the 1,000 $ discount
it probably still does not have the synthetic fluids though so at my first oil change ill look into getting those changed as well

but thanks though

1. Stupid suggestion but, it's probably that little button that lets air in from outside is on... or off, i forget which closes air from coming in from outside.

2. Yeah, you have to push down -_-

From the Owner's Manual…

As cjkim suggested, it might be the Air intake selector. Most people—in all cars—have it set wrong. Normally it should be set to "Outside"—not "Recirculated":

"It is recommended that under normal conditions the switch be kept in the outside air position".

I can't tell you how many friend's cars I've been in where it's mistakenly set to Recirculated all the time. Recirc is for when you ride on dusty roads and don't want dust entering the car, or when you want the A/C to cool down the car fast. (That's probably why most people have it set there. But then they leave it there, thinking it's the normal position.)

And yes, you have to push down for reverse, but also note this:
"If shifting to R is difficult, shift back into neutral, release the clutch pedal, and try again." I think that's true for many manual transmissions.

i checked it on break and it goes in smooth as **** [R]

as far as recirc. i think i have it selected to outside as opposed to the one that looks like a loop

would that explain the passive airflow ?

Is your Sunroof open? I notice that if you open that, the vents will go on even if the car's AC isn't on.

I set mine to recirc, fan off, windows cracked. If I used fresh air, it gets heated up by the car and toasts me.

the vents don't 'go on' (eg the air fan is not turned on), it's just natural air movement/ventilation as a result of your car being in motion, and your cabin having a lower air pressure than outside, thus the air outside is being 'sucked in' to neutralize air pressure.

i think he was talking about your air vent question... which does operate the same on most cars... even on your 7....

Hit the button to recirculate the air and turn the fan to -0-. No air will come through the vents.

I had the same problem with reverse when I first got the car last June. I pushed down and threw it to the extreme right, but it was hard to get it in gear.

It loosened up with time.
