Need some advice after catalyst breaks up
Hi
Guys I posted a video up here before in relation to a bad engine sound when under any type of load or when decelarating.
Basically it sounds like an exhaust leak:
After taking to mazda and them saying their standard "there is nothing wrong with it" when the fault is not obvious to them, I took the car home and inspected the cat.
I found the cat was breaking up so I decided to gut the cat leaving just an empty box.
This reduced that rasping sound from the exhaust slightly but still sounded bad.
Because of the strict laws here I fitted a hi flow cat, but that noise is still there, if not louder now.
My question is for the experienced among us, could my main muffler be blocked with bits of catalyist?
the car drives fine, but one observation is that my car doesnt pop on the over run of the engine, just the muffled tiny sound you here from the video.
I have rectified the issue that I think caused the cat failure.
But I am fed up with throwing money at the car with no success.
Thanks guys
Antony
