FL need rack and pinion help??

My Rack and pinion is shot on my 04 rx 8 Mazda wants over $2000 to fix it! Which I do not have that kind of cash to replace. Have any of you replaced your rack in pinion your self. How difficult is it?? Any advice or photos or help of any kindand where should i buy the parts and what all do i need

Wish it was connections! i'll give it a shot cleaning them!! but dam sure its my rack., I dont have the light for power steering on or traction! When I start car her wheel jumps all over and when i back out of driveway wheel shutters and have no steering. I really cant afford over 2000$ I have a newborn I have to drive i around in my 8. I REALLY NEED to fix this myself i cant afford the dealership! How hard of a project is this? Pleae any advice , videos, threads, were I get parts and what I need!!!

very expensive and definitely more difficult than most amateurs should be doing. Or can do, you'll need some relatively serious tools.

really, 99 percent of people who think they need to replace the steering rack are actually having connector problems. If anything, spend the $100 and get a new connector cable. VERY confident that that is the problem.

Thank You!!, Please send me every photo, video, thread you have for cleaning connections also were is the best place to get new connections or what to clean them with! the post earlier about cleaning is great but the more the better!!! The more detailed instructions or photos the better for me also what tools I need !Please the for dummies photos or videos of how to get to the connections!!! I've done simple stuff like oil changes and alternator replacement

I cleaned the power steering connections and bingo no steering problem! When I saw how the boiling coolant overflows right on the electrical connections. I was like WOW!!! A bad Design!
Thanks everyone that gave me info just saved me 2 grand )))

Fabricate a routing flow tray over it.

I know this is an old thread, and it seems like the connectors were the problem for the OP, but I know from looking up this issue myself that this thread still comes up as one of the first results when researching this issue. So, for anybody who actually is interested in how to replace the steering rack, I recently did a write up on my personal website:
