need help asap cannot reverse

hey guys, my car has 71k miles and im having transmission issues. ive read that a lot of people have had trouble with 1st and 2nd but im having issues with reverse and 1st. it is near impossible to put into reverse. it goes in gear but all it does is grind. first grinds almost 70% off the time now. all the rest of the gears are fine. there is also a rattle coming from the transmission and 2nd, 4th, and 6th whines.

what has everyone done. has anyone had luck with mazda to get it replaced since majority of people are having issues with the transmission? its pretty bs that an 05 transmission would go out at 71k. ive had and 85 corolla with almost 200k miles and the transmission was fine. also a miata with 180k with no issues with the transmission.

any help would be much appreciated.

that depends on how it was driven and maintained before you which you can never know for sure, I would look at the clutch and oil had you not mentioned all those other symptoms, but yeah it is a weak trans in general which is why it was updated in 2009

I have broken four of them racing

if you search you will see it has been a problem in general

well i bought it in aug 2010 with 46k miles on it. ran perfectly fine. i got it to 71k in a year and a half with just normal driving no launching or power shifting or racing. so i have no idea whats going on here. previous owner hardly drove it. if its such a weak transmission with so many issues then shouldnt mazda do something about it?

Try the two things TeamRX8 suggested; it's easy to do a transmission fluid change, there's a DIY you can search. How is your clutch pedal?
