Need help

I just installed new brakes on my '04 rx8. I went with the powerslot cryo rotors and hawk performance pads all around. I installed them with the anti-sqeel plates that came off the old pads as I seen in the DIY. I followed the break in procedure for the new pads posted on hawks website. The brakes are consistently sqeeling when I am comming to a stop. Is this common when braking in? Even worse, under hard braking their is a clunk, clunk, clunk... Is this because they are slotted?

Please help!

Thanks.

I believe the hawk brake pads come with there own "anti squeel plates" so you would not have to use them. Also did you put lube where the brake pads slide into the caliper bracket? The clunk sound is not good and it is not because they are slotted. I have Hawk HPS pads and Stop Tech Slotted Rotors and have no problems.

The pads never came with any plates. Should I have used the old ones? Also I never thought to grease the pads where they slide into the caliper Will this help?

I bought the Hawk HP Plus front and rear. They are supposed to be good for track and street. The rotor are powerslot cryo. Do you think the pads may are the wrong ones for daily driving?

I have found that these pads need several minutes of hard use at the track before becoming effective. On the street, they are OK, but when cold they are a bit lacking. Unless you are doing alot of stop and go driving, there is probably a better solution for daily driver use. The Hawk HP Plus pads on my car do squeal at times, especially when cold.

you have to buy a kit from Mazda that has all the new brake pad clips, backer plates, and anti-squeal grease if you want quiet pads regardless of brand

front axle kit part no. F1Y1-33-29ZA

rear axle kit part no. F1Y1-26-49Z

these parts should always be replaced when installing new brake pads unless you're racing where noise is no concern

Thanks for the help!

I just ordered the front and rear kits from Mazda. They come with new pads I don't need but whatever. I will make sure to use the anti-sqeal grease and let you know how it goes this weekend.
